I recommend that you delve into Larkin Poe further. They are both very talented.

There are multiple references to Alice in Wonderland, including the Mad Hatter character. In this case the song is about their grandfather and his mental illness and also one of their grandmother is also now experiencing mental issues. The first version has an introduction where they describe the song. I recommend you listen to the other one at least for the introduction.

"Mad as a hatter" is a colloquial English phrase used in conversation to suggest (lightheartedly) that a person is suffering from insanity. The etymology of the phrase is uncertain, with explanations both connected and unconnected to the trade of hat-making. The earliest known appearance of the phrase in print is in an 1829 issue of Blackwood's Edinburgh Magazine, predating the Hatter from Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by several decades.

Yeah. Not bad that. And the lyrics are beautiful. I dig their Preaching Blues song by the way. These girls are gold. And their song Blood Harmony rocks as well. I'm a fan.

Beautiful lyrics. From what I have heard, the term "Mad as a hatter" is in reference to the tendency of those in the hat making industry going insane. Back when all hats were made out of fur, they used to clean the fur by dunking it in mercury. They didn't know that long exposure to mercury would poison them, disrupting brain activity. I don't remember all the effects, but they would start acting erratically. Yesterday Diana Ankudinova released her first all original song "Revelation".

Hi Samantha, thanks for reacting to my absulutly favourite band of all time. Larkin Poe are 2 sisters from Nashville Tennessee, Megan Lovell (Slideguitar and Harmonies) and Rebecca Lovell (Guitar and Leadvocals). They founded in 2010 after her big sister left their former band The Lovellsister for personal reasons. 6 or 7 years ago they fell in love with american rootsmusic but are open for all kind of music. If you check out their KZitem-Channel you'll find their own music, sure, but also about more than 100 Coverversions of songs they where inspired by. Only 2 voices and 2 guitars totally stripped down, simply wonderfull and highly respected by the artists they covered. The version you reacted to was a collaboration with the fantastic classic "Nu Deco Ensemble". On tour they have also two more great musicians, Kevin Mc Gowin on the drums and Tarka Layman on the base. I'm from Hamburg, Germany. Recently I follwed them on 5 concerts in a row: Kobenhaven (Denmark), Gotenburg (Sweden), Oslo (Norway) and last but least in my hometown Hamburg, where I had the chance to met and talk to them personally, the nicest people you can imagine!!! If you want to react to more songs of them here some suggestions: You'll find them all on their KZitem-Channel. 1. Of course all the videos with the Nu Deco Ensemble. Official videos: 2 Preaching Blues - from the album "Peach" 3. Bleach Blond Bottle Blues - from their Grammy nominated Album "Venom and Faith" 4. Holy Ghost Fire - from the album "Self Made Man" 5. Back Down South - from the album "Self Made Man" 6. Bad Spell - from the upcoming album "Blood Harmony" Release 11.11.2022 7. Blood Harmony - see above. Coverversions: 8: Wish you where here - Pink Floyd 9: Kissed by a rose - Seal 10. Nights in white satin - Moddy Blues Only to mention some.😄 I hope you wil pick up at least some of them. ❤and☮ and Rock 'n' Roll🤘.

Thank you for doing this, Samantha. I figured you would enjoy them. If you watch the other video, Megan will go into the reason behind the song, it's worth checking out. Youknowwho 1964 has given you a great list of suggestions. I would choose one of their conversions, "Kiss From a Rose", and there newest original official music video, "Blood Harmony". Both show their fantastic ability to harmonize. The music video will show the other 2 members of their touring band, Kevin and Tarka. Larkin Poe are very hard working, self reliant musicians who take a very hands on approach. They do not have a major label backing them, everything is put out on their own label, Tricki Woo Records. They produce all their own albums, and the last one was recorded for the most part in Rebecca's basement in her husband Tyler's home studio. (Tyler's band, Tyler Bryant and the Shakedown, is a fantastic blues rock band). They've been touring musicians since Rebecca was 14, and she's now 30. Live, they are one of the best.

Aloha @SamanthaLisa - I would have suggested you start with Larkin Poe's older but in my mind more iconic version of Mad As A Hatter from their Convent Club performance. kzitem.info/news/bejne/xX170JaApKp3m6g Sister Megan introduces the song and why they wrote it. And her lap steel slide is way more haunting and melancholic. And then watch this version for it's orchestral accompaniment! Regardless, Thank you, Mahalo, Merci, Muchas Gracias for doing this reaction and I encourage you to venture further down the Larkin Poe rabbit hole! They call themselves an American roots blues rock band. Enjoy! Cheers! #FeedMyLarkinPoeHunger!

They are from the U.S. and currently living in the State of Tennessee but they grew up in Georgia. They have a third sister who was with them when they were known as the Lovell Sisters. The name Larkin Poe is named after their grandfather, I believe, and they are distant relatives of famous author Edgar Alan Poe.

This song was made for their grandparents, they both suffered from both Dementia and Alzheimer’s. They wrote this song in memory of their grandparents while they both loved very much.

You should be familiar with the novel "Alice in Wonderland" where there is a red queen ordering some playcards to paint white roses red. Otherwise they would be decapitated. You can find an old Disney film on the Internet. All of this is referring to lose one's head which is the subject of this song.
