After Adam was on American Idol, Queen reached out to him and asked if he’d like to be their frontman. Obviously he said yes, and they’ve been touring ever since. Adam is probably the only man that could come close to singing like Freddy. The best part is he doesn’t try to be Freddy, nobody could, so he sings the songs like himself. He’s absolutely amazing. Great stage presence, amazing performer, and just outstanding vocals!!!

The original Queen Official video is magnificent with a full orchestra. Brian May opens the song singing while playing the organ first, then guitar, Freddie Mercury sings the majority of the lead, bassist John Deason plays an upright bass and Roger Taylor plays the Timpany drums. There is a boys' choir that comes in toward the end. They wrote the soundtrack to the movie "Highlander" and this is where this song comes from. The full richness and stunning vocals are well worth a watch. Adam Lambert is probably the only singer who could have fronted Queen after Freddie Mercury passed away though Paul Rodgers did for a while.

When Adam was on American Idol, the story goes, the keyboard player Spike Edney, for Queen saw him and called Brian May and said "I think I've found you your new lead singer." One thing led to another and they played the finale of American Idol with Adam and the other contender, mainly to see if they would have chemistry - which they certainly did. Don't get me wrong, I love Queen's music on main, but having grown up on the Highlander franchise, this will always be one of my favorites of theirs. They wrote much of the Highlander soundtrack, and this is the stand-out piece. Princes of the Universe is a bop, but it gets a bit odd after the first couple of verses used for the series' theme song. IIRC, Freddie already knew he was dying when he wrote "Who Wants to Live Forever?" He sang it with so much sorrow, anger, regret, and longing that it's heartrending. It was a perfect fit within the movies and television series, encapsulating the slow torture that immortality would be when you watch your loved ones grow old and die over and over while you stay the same. But more than that, it also speaks to the very human experience of time slipping through your fingers and staring down your own mortality.

Freddie didn't write it. Brian did. But Freddie did know he was sick. Just not officially diagnosed. Brian wrote it about the turmoil in his life at the time. But it took on new meaning after Freddie died.

He sang It. So his feelings & emotions poured out through the song. However. He did not write it. Brian Did. Probably using his own recent loss, & the themes in the movie. Not to mention his feelings about Fred's looming mortality. As inspiration. Just as Roger wrote, These Are The Days of Our Lives. A reflection on time passing / his children growing up. But obviously when Fred sang it. In the context of what he was facing. It took on an entirely different meaning.

@@susanberrier5727 I am willing to accept that because anybody knows when they're sick without being diagnosed and Freddie always had health issues. I am willing to accept that he may have had early HIV as early as 1982. He was tested often, but no diagnosis of AIDS was made until 1987. And Brian wrote this song to go along with the movie "Highlander" and the theme of immortality. The theme of the movie being if you live forever everyone you love dies and you are still alive. Final conclusion is that Freddie didn't write the song. And Brian's losses were around 1989-1990 and the song was written in 1986. Brian's pretty smart, but I've never known him to predict the future so the losses mentioned were not taking place at the time. The song was written to go along with the movie's theme of immortality.

Roger is 73 and Brian is 76 years now. And they have been touring the whole world for 12 years now. North America this fall. They have a keyboard player - Spike Edney who played with Queen in the 80'ies to make it possible for Freddie to perform , and also with them both on their soloprojects. And a percussionist and a bass player - they can all sing so the famous Queen harmonies are still there.

Some Freddie-only people despise Adam, but even some of these and other real Queen fans including Bryan May and Roger Taylor say that Adam can sing things Freddie couldn't and that Adam's voice is just absolutely and ridiculously extraordinary. Don't take my word for it, just google Adam Lambert what other artists think of him. Even the New York Times and other serious news outlets gave gone out of their way, praising his vocal abilities. He has been able to tour with Queen for over a decade pretty much annually minus the pandemic. They sell out stadiums everywhere they go. They met on the Idol finale which was so exciting since Adam was the 80’s rocker on Idol that season and it felt like kismet for them and even to most people watching. They did a few appearances together over the next couple years and then announced a mini tour in Europe which turned into 10 + years. It was magic and they just kept going. Seems like they tour a few months every year and Adam does his own stuff the rest of the year. He definitely works hard!! I was lucky enough to meet him on his album promo tour last month and will be seeing a couple Queen shows in October. Adam does a phenomenal job fronting Queen. When Freddie Mercury passed, they had a tribute concert with the remaining band members and then they called a lot of other singers to do lead vocals. Queen’s catalog is so eclectic that they had to get a lot of people because some could only sing the rock songs from their catalog and others could sing the ballads or gospel songs like Somebody To Love. Adam sang Whole Lotta Love by Led Zeppelin on AI and Queen’s keyboard player and a lot of others reached out to the remaining band members and said “This is the guy” Unlike multiple singers at the Tribute concert, Adam has the range to sing Queen’s eclectic catalog. Adam and the other AI finalists got a chance to sing with Queen doing We Are The Champions and the members of Queen felt a connection with Adam and asked him to sing lead vocals for them. There is a great documentary called The Show Must Go On that is really good that I recommend

I've been listening to this song since they wrote it for the movie 'Highlander' and released it on the AMAZING album 'A Kind of Magic' Had to look up the album, but MAN it was so good.
