Hello from England ELVIS died 2 days before my 12th birthday. I have been a FAN ever since. Watching lots of videos about ELVIS and his "backstory" they make me CRY buckets and also make me think so much more about the years that have "flown by" -53 years just last week when this was aired on NBC. If asked what is my FAVOURITE ELVIS song and i would have to reply: ALL of them and he recorded over 700 songs. ELVIS could have recorded an album of Nursery Rhymes and i would have loved them ALL Watching these reaction videos for me it's so COOL when ELVIS can COMMAND ANY STAGE and literally as soon as he opened his mouth the AUDIENCE, CROWD, FANATICAL FOLLOWERS WOULD JUST GO CRAZY

I’m in agreement with some of the other people that have posted, the song that you need to look into is the last song from the 68 Special, If I Can Dream. It was meant to be a message song and it still stands strong today, this was a song that was written shortly after the deaths of Martin Luther King Jr and Robert Kennedy for Elvis to preform at the end of this special. He never performed it again, since he felt he couldn’t do it any better and you can see how heartfelt it was from his performances of it, of which I think there were 5 takes. After the song he was quoted as saying that he wouldn’t do another song that he didn’t believe it, which was a knock against some of the movie songs he couldn’t stand, the most notorious one of which he disliked the most that he did was Old MacDonald. Some other great ones to look into are from the movie That’s the Way it is are Mystery Train/Tigerman, Suspicious Minds, Never Been to Spain, The Wonder of You, Sweet Caroline, Can’t Help Falling in Love, Polk Salad Annie. Elvis on Tour has the first on stage performance of Burning Love, as well as a great performance of American Trilogy. Both of those can also be seen on Elvis Aloha from Hawaii special. There’s so many more I can pick, Elvis did hundreds of masters and a lot of them you can’t go wrong with.

Elvis was gathered together at home with his Cilla, Lisa Marie who was 10 months, & a bunch of friends on Dec.3rd. They didn't know what to expect. Elvis specifically stated he did not want to do a "Christmas Special" like the Col. wanted. As soon as this opening hit as they all watched....Elvis & the rest laughed at first...he never took himself that serious. Knowing it was going to be a success was a celebration at Graceland that night,,,,,,nobody there knew it would be known as the night The King Took Back His Throne & what opportunities were ahead for him. PEACE!

When Elvis was younger he stopped at a car dealer. As he was walking in a young black girl walked out of the dealership crying. Elvis asked what was wrong. She explained that they wouldn't sell her a car. She said she needed a car to get a job to pay for her going to college. Elvis took her by the hand and walked back inside and he bought her that car. He then told her to be at Graceland the next day for her new job. Her job was to sit at the dining room table and study. All she had to due was bring him a plate of food before she went home. And by the way he paid for her to go college. Unbelievable!!!

Just as they typically do today, Christmas specials are generally great family fare, with plenty of Christmas songs...old and new, and the headliner sharing the spotlight with a guest or two. Elvis' special surprised everyone. It began with an extreme close-up of the man telling his audience, "If you're lookin' for trouble...you came to the right place!" Except for a rendition of Blue Christmas about midway through the show, there were no Christmas tunes.

*Nickie... Interesting factoid* Guitar Man was written (and performed) by Jerry Reed. He is known as a guitar guru back in his day. In his version he picks where Elvis was scarping/muting the strings. On a side note note Jerry Reed was the Truck driver, The Snowman, in the 70's movie hit "Smokey and the Bandit" starring Burt Reynolds. Anyway, Reed's version made it on the charts and then Elvis picked it up. On the Original Elvis recording they couldn't figure out the guitar lead so they had someone find Jerry. He lived just outside of Nashville not far from the RCA studios. They eventually found him. He was fishing. So he agreed to play and showed up still wearing his fishing clothes and smelling like fish.

You noticed that red guitar of Elvis, you can see it at his home, Graceland now a museum. I think it is on display. His ex wife, Priscilla oversees the place while their daughter, Lisa Marie has control over all of her father's assets & properties. Because before his death, Elvis has his written will stated that Lisa Marie get control of his assets. If someone wants to use his likeness or songs, they have to go thru her and her people.

You are prettier than Elvis. Come to Uncle Wayne (waving candy bar.) Seriously though, Elvis really had something in that ,68 special. He made a fantastic follow up with the Memphis recording sessions a few months later. In my personal opinion, he should have kept on permanently working with Chips Moman. Those recordings were the best stuff Elvis ever did. Sadly enough though, we know how the story goes. The drugs and other personal problems slowly made him start losing his drive for perfection. By 1974 Elvis and the TCB band were in auto-play mode and the performances got more and more lack-luster. I wish he would have realized what was happening to him and turned himself in to the Ford clinic.

After almost a decade of largely forgettable movies, when everyone heard Elvis was doing a Christmas special, it was generally expected to be the usual, typical Christmas show with traditional Christmas songs, maybe a few guests, etc. But he opened his with an extreme close-up of his face warning viewers, "If you're looking for trouble, you came to the right place."
