I always think it's a little funny when people take this song too seriously. She said in an interview that her thoughts were "...I’m not that, but if you can be fake with everyone and try to prove that you’re something that you’re not then I can do it too." It is a tongue-in-cheek song where she's playing a role, almost like "this is what you expect, so I'll play along."

Fun fact in case no one said this yet; that beat switch at the end was made by Billie herself. Her brother does almost all the music production, though she does some; that one was the first beat she made and used on any of her songs. Also, according to both her and her brother, they didn’t expect this song to blow up as it did, they just thought it would be a fun amp up song for the start of her set she was going to do at Coachella the year her album dropped. That is at least what they said in interviews.

Billie’s interviews are great. She’s magnetic to listen to not only in her music. Like others have said, the vanity fair interviews are a really interesting overviewing concept, but I would also recommend the Rolling Stones interview breaking down bad guy, and there’s a mini series on her songs from her first album (not EP) that I would only watch once you’ve actually heard the songs. Needless to say, there’s a lot more. For the next video: bury a friend The video after that should be: all the good girls go to hell But I really would recommend switching on the subtitles when watching her music videos.

You should listen the Bond theme that she and Finneas did - No Time to Die - specifically live from the Brit Award, and then for more of her lyrics, I suggest "Listen before I go" "I love you" from her debut LP When We All Fall Asleep Where Do We Go? - then Male Fantasy from the new album Happier Than Ever - and lastly The 30th from Guitar Songs. That one especially just gets me. It's based on one of her friends who was in an accident on 11/30/2022 and how her feelings were eating her up, so finally, on 12/30/2022 she and Finneas sat down to write The 30th. The feels! Welcome to the world of Billie! 😎😎 Also, there's a documentary from her early days to when the debut LP dropped - the World's a Little Blurry - it really gives you a good insight to how she blew up and how amazingly grounded she and Finneas still are despite blowing up at 14! Ocean Eyes blew up at 14.

It’s her and her brother Finneas. They’re a magical duo. They write and make everything together. He’s her producer and co-song writer. Just a little background about Billie.. She was a dancer at first..was in dance classes and everythiing. She had a career ending injury that stopped that in its tracks. She concentrated more on singing after her and her brother made a song for her dance class. They uploaded it to SoundCloud and her career started from that song. It’s called “ocean eyes.” So she was like 14-15 years old when she started blowing up. How many teenage musicians have a documentary made about them? There’s an Apple+ documentary about her called “the world’s a little blurry.” She has Tourette’s (physical ticks, not verbal), she has a voice that’s a throwback to the 50’s, but she grew up on all sorts of music. She ranges from Peggy Lee and Sinatra, to the Beatles and childish gambino. And now? She’s becoming an actress. Just dive into the Billie waters and take a swim.

The Interrupters do an amazing Ska-Punk cover of this song as well! That's a genre I'd love to see you dive through as it has roots dating back to the 70's. Fun fact, the high speed clicking noise you hear in the background is a sample of a auditory assistance device on pedestrian crossings. Finneas heard it when they were in Australia (I think) and recorded it on his phone to use in a track..

there's actually a video of billie and finneas explaining the process of writing/producing this song (on rolling stone's yt channel I believe) and they go into depth about how this song was meant to just be a fun weird song that wasn't meant to be taken seriously at all. has very little doubles, very straightforward message and delivery and very little depth. however it ended up blowing up anyway and hit the #1 spot on billboard for weeks straight (overthrowing old town road, which was a big feat in itself). I think its safe to say its not her best song. not even close. artists' most popular songs rarely are their best anyway. this is simply a fun song to vibe along to. definitely doesn't exhibit any of her prominent qualities as an artist, which is why I'm glad you delved into some of her other stuff before fully reacting to this one.

At the beginning of the song she takes out her Invisalign which are "invisible braces" and the guy she is dancing next to for the video is not her brother Finneas. She was a dancer. And she has hypermobility (I also do and used to do that backward crab thing). Sadly she ripped her hope to bits LC damaged the growth plate and was unable to continue dancing. I sadly know that too (spine blown in car smack). So she finds it really hard on stage not to go bonkers (and has done ending up with severe shin splints and damage poor thing). She and Phineus are superb. His production is incredible. They deserve every plaudit they’ve won. And then some because they are different and individual. And utterly unapologetic. Breath of fresh air. If u can perhaps watch the documentary ‘The world’s a little blurry’.. it’s good & you’ll understand her more.

This isn't about her actually being "the bad guy", about being attracted to older men or even remotely sexual. This is about the perception people have of her. *You* thought all those things. She'll just play along and pretend to be all those things. Might as well, right? People are gonna judge her anyway. Or make a protest song like this and get rich in the process.

Rewatching on 4/19/2023: You didn't catch it but at 9:16 in your commentary 3/4 of the way through, you innocently, inadvertently came up with either a new song title or lyric - "she blew, she blew and everybody new!" [or an 11 syllable modified Haiku] - cracked me up! Billie would have loved to have heard that. P.S. if you would like to see nature at work creating art, imagine fresh snow covering the ground after a very long winter [right next to the U.S./Canada border] and this is on April 19 with more coming. New subscriber! If you want more Billie recs, I think one of the best video/song combos is Bury a Friend, very artistic, cinematic, and creepy. Based on her experience with sleep paralysis. For a more vulnerable side of her, I love her songs Everything I Wanted (a tribute to her brother), and Lovely (collaboration with Khalid). These are from when she really started to blow up several years ago. Then if you listen to her newer songs in contrast, you'll notice the evolution of her confidence and self-empowerment.

My husband is in five bands, and is critical, but not to a point to where he is ugly. He just didn’t know any better. All he knew what was on the radio and then I pulled up on KZitem and cast it to the TV an interview by Rolling Stones magazine interview with Billy Eilish pirate O’Connell and Finneas O’Connell at their parents house and how he and they made this song. For the next year, everyone that came over to our house, my husband was outright, explaining why Billy and sentience are going to win every award available in the US and that year, they damn sure did. But before I showed him that KZitem interview of the Rolling Stones, making of bad guy with Billy and Finneas, my husband said that she’s just that girl that plays the ukulele, right? And my jaw dropped. You are a serious lyricist, not just my opinion, because I’m not your only subscriber, wink, wink nudge nudge, if you KZitem search Rolling Stones interview with Billy and Finneas, making of bad guy. That could be a reaction video and if not, then you would be so amazed. Also, the song they did called bury a friend, when Billie went in to the dentist and under anesthesia, she hit record audio on her phone, and when she got home, she gave her brother Phineas, the Dental drilling’s that are the high pitch sounds used in the song bury a friend. That is her recording from the dentist.😮😮
