I'm with Lady T on this one. I love Metallica, but Bob Seger's version is far, far superior. Seger just had more passion in his expression. You really can feel what he feels like.

Not a huge Metallica fan, but they are certainly legends in they own right. They have a stack of songs that no matter who covers it, it would still be a Metallica song. With the gay said, I have no Ill will for them doing this, but yes this is Bob's song.

This video was cool until you started playing the Metallica version. I've loved that band for over 30 years, but they can't compare to Bob. He meant it. They could relate, but it's still a fairly passionless cover on their part (which surprises me). They played it well, but there's probably an unknown bar band somewhere right now playing it better than they did. Whereas Bob couldn't be unauthentic if he tried.

Bob Seger was quite popular in his day. I saw him live once when I was about 20, which was about 40 years ago. Now he is for the most part, just plain rock and roll and I pretty much outgrew him over the years, but, I love this song. It has always been one of my favorites. It still gives me goose bumps. I love the concept as well. It's like it's saying that where you all might think being a rock star is all glamour, but in reality, it can be quite tedious; just another night and another show. And the girl is right, as I'm sure you figured out as it went along, that it is about being a performer and having to tour. Another song that I think is kind of about the same thing, is Lost in Hollywood by Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow. Now this one is a jamming metal song, as opposed to a ballad, but it makes me think of having to tour and borderline losing your sanity, when all he really wants to do is get home to his girl. "In the L.A. night, the sirens wail." You should check that one out.
@batfang5583

I found that a few other artists other than Metallica have covered this song. I never knew it, but one of my favorite all time bands, Golden Earring did so in 1995. I liked it.
