I guess they are all not in the hot talk of pop culture and social media the last 10 or 20 years where people will see them or hear about them , so many older living artists do so many things to stay relevant these days.

This song was 98% written by Michael Jackson himself! A little story which his sister Latoya told: For a week, the two spent every night working on lyrics and melodies in Michael's bedroom. Michael's older sister La Toya recounted the process in an interview with the U.S. celebrity news magazine People: "I'd go into the room while they were writing and it would be very quiet, which is odd, since Michael's usually very cheery when he works. It was very emotional for them." She also later said that Michael wrote most of the lyrics "but he's never felt it necessary to say that" Lionel Richie had recorded two melodies for "We Are the World", which Michael took, adding music and words to the song on the same day. MJ said, "I love working quickly. I went ahead without even Lionel knowing. I couldn't wait. I went in and came out the same night with the song completed: drums, piano, strings, and words to the chorus. Michael then presented his demo to Lionel Richie and Quincy Jones, who were both shocked; they did not expect the Pop Star to see the structure of the song so quickly! Dereck Please react to some more MJ! Missed them MJ reactions real bad! 😃

Michael Jackson has a similar song called "Heal the World", you may have heard it or heard of it. Many years ago, I was teaching at a summer English camp in China and my two classes got together and rehearsed this song for the end of the season performance. They put us on last because it was such a show-stopper. They got a standing ovation. The other foreign teachers could not believe how well they performed it. Mind you, these were 14-15-16 year old kids, most of whom only had a modicum of English skills. One of my favorite memories.

Of course you don't recognise them all, but for eveyone, in 1985 we all knew who they where, but with bif famous stars, you had americans big hit singers, in different kind of music, all together. So I must admit: I had chills from the beginning...and also some tears Nobody cared if you were black or white, gay or straight, muslim or catholic, man or woman. Of course there were some problems, but this was the time when everyone was together, when in 2022 everyone want to show "the other" is different. I miss those days...

Also John Oates with his moustache is in the chorus. 4.- When you ask: who is that?: is James Ingram. Hi Derek, There is another song that was written for Africa Ethiopia. This is a French song, with many artists contributing, called "Chanson pour l'Éthiopie"

The vocalists are listed in the order in which they sang. Smokey Robinson was in the chorus group. Dan Akroid (part of The Blues Brothers duo. Check them out of you haven't already) stood in the back with Harry Belafonte.(known for his Calypso style) This was recorded the day after the Grammy Awards. Everyone was told to check their egos at the door. Dionne Warwick, who sang beside Willy Nelson, (is Whitney Houston's cousin and sang as a back up singer to Elvis in the group The Sweet Inspirations. Whitney's mother Cissy, also sang in that group) The sales of this solo record raised millions to feed Africa.during a famine.

Kenny Loggins was the first you didn't recognize "Footloose" fame, then Steve Perry, lead singer of "Journey." Then it was Darryl Hall of "Hall & Oates."

It was said Madonna intentionally was uninvited to this event... ironically, her song Crazy for you kicked We are the world out of its #1 spot.

I love it when there are no pauses. Dione Warwick is Witney Houston's cousin.

Pointer Sisters are doing a lot of the heavy lifting on the chorus.

I’m glad you said that, didn’t think anyone else would notice. I’ve always said, you can definitely hear the voices of the Pointer Sisters over everyone else in the choir, they said in an interview that they are very proud of their church upbringing and singing in the choir, that shows throughout their awesome professional career as one of the most legendary and stellar pop groups of all time!
