Forgot to mention that they’ll send “professionals” to certify the safety of the gas and electricity but they won’t actually check the appliances. So if you have a gas cooktop that is spewing gas into the kitchen when you try to light it and it takes a minute or two to get the thing to take then the burners go out while the gas is spewing into the kitchen, they say that’s ALL GOOD. They sent a guy as “a professional” who told me to hook a wooden spoon into the frame of the gas cooktop to keep the ignition button firing the entire time I was cooking, THEN AFTER THAT they certified the thing as safe. And the gas hot water system? They just looked at it from the balcony, took a photo, said “yes there is a gas hot water system” then certified it as safe despite not getting within meters of the thing. And that guy they sent out? He “fixed” other things too: left the front door lock installed backwards with putty and cardboard filling up a bloody great big hole, the blind he installed fell on me then the property manager tried to claim I’d damaged it (even after it fell on me it wasn’t damaged), he replaced the kitchen tap that was leaking and left the cold water at a trickle, it was faster to walk to the bathroom to fill in the kettle than to fill it in the kitchen and… After the first VCAT hearing a partner (owner) of the property manager company sent an email threatening defamation proceedings and implying possible other retaliation if I challenged the lies the property manager told VCAT. After VCAT made orders to bring the house up to minimum legal standards, they got a tradie to phone me to bully me in an attempt to force me to accept that they wouldn’t comply with the orders; they emailed me 16 times in 26 hours including after 10pm, threatened rent rise; raised the rent by $49 per week; sent an eviction notice on 18 December that wasn’t valid, sent another eviction notice in January that was valid, applied for immediate eviction knowing that I was waiting for my house to be finished, VCAT ruled to give us 3 more months, then the day after I gave notice of intention to vacate they applied to VCAT to evict me in violation of VCAT’s orders, then I pointed out that it was illegal (vexatious, harassment and in violation of VCAT’s previous orders) then they somehow got a hearing for 14 June despite VCAT’s previous orders giving us until 19 June. I’m currently moving house but I AM FURIOUS. Bullying, harassment, and never ending Fking bullshit. They just will not leave me alone. There are laws against this, they know it, but NO ONE POLICES THESE LAWS. THESE BASTARDS CAN DO WHATEVER THEY PLEASE WITH IMPUNITY APPARENTLY.

@@avivabillington5514 Yes. And according to VCAT I have to go to Consumer Affairs to get penalties applied to them but Consumer Affairs doesn’t really do anything and won’t do anything with a VCAT case in play. Plus the property managers committed perjury and have now violated VCAT’s orders so I have to go to VCAT to deal with it. More time, more stress, and what’s the bet they’ll cancel after I’ve wasted days preparing my presentation? And I have to do that and I have to attend BECAUSE THEY’VE ALREADY COMMITTED PERJURY. God only knows what they’d tell VCAT if I didn’t show.

@DarkMatterZine Anxiety levels off the charts after reading some of your recent experiences here. (The truly sad thing is that some kind person will take the place and be endlessly treated illegally, and like dirt, while taking ever more of their money.) /I imagine you've already considered giving your testimony to the Tenants Association in your state. I'd supply a copy to the MP for that address as well. Wishing you future peace and comfort.
@DarkMatterZine
Ай бұрын
@@comealongcomealong4480 Thanks. Ironically at this stage the best hope to protect future tenants is (drum roll) the property managers have violated VCAT orders to apply for possession AFTER I gave notice of intention to vacate. So the DAY AFTER I hand back my keys, we have a VCAT hearing. I hope that goes through because if it does it is the most likely way that the legal system will act to penalise the landlord and property managers for breaking the law and wasting the tribunal’s time!
