I have an M8 lying in a drawer for some weeks but I already watched your video and it helped me too. However, I find it quite hard to really make a good track with it because I still have no proper workflow. It's a permanent switching between different views and the time it consums destroys creativity in some way. No doubt, it's an ingenious and efficient concept that is behind and to find out if it's working for myself is the thing. A good use of tables, for example, was not possible after some hours of testing. Finally, I ended up to clone phrases when I needed different automations. I'll give me some time but if I can't produce any good track during this summer, I think, it would be fair to give the M8 away to someone, who's waiting for it.

Give away? Why not sell it on reverb? But hey if you're serious, I'll take it! Have been wanting one forever

@@darkjord5823 I meant selling it, of course. I'll give myself still time to get used to first.

@@SOPM2007NGL, I had a similar experience when I first bought mine in November 2022, not sure say in a drawer, but I didn't touch it after first initial hello, I was still using MPC one to finish some tracks I had been working on, but, and a BIG BUT, after I started using it more regularly I feel in love with it and is more my favourite device! Although the numbers for sequence and phrases is a bit weird at first, I love how simple it is to apply commands and effects. Hands down and by far a long way, my favourite piece of kit to write songs with. Hope you get used to yours and enjoy it as much as I do, or more even!

That’s a great attitude. So many synth-heads will hang onto an unused device, just to brag about owning one. If its UI doesn’t inspire you, it’s so much better to pass it on to someone who will create something amazing with it. But if you’re truly going to GIVE it away, be strong and demand to see what they are doing with their amazing gift. If they are just letting it collect dust and hanging onto it for bragging rights, find someone else to give it to.

That was actually really fricking helpful and finally made me able to dive further into the content of this little tool. Even though I'm running my M8 though a teensy 4.1 and a rg351v anberic, it still works like a charm

Thank you so much! I just got my M8 and your video is really one of the best for newbies to get started. Your patient and friendly demeanor, and going through the steps slowly really helps. Too many other M8 videos zip through the instructions so fast I have to pause their videos every few seconds. I hope you will make more M8 tutorials and I look forward to seeing more of your content!

Thanks that was easy to understand and helpful. Now can you figure out how to use the groove features ? And explain this to us... I’m also starting to understand how the hexadecimal system works by breaking the two digit number up and the first one (the number on the left) is an iteration of 16. The second number ( on right) adds to it- So #11 = 16 + 1 so, = 17..

Yes! That’s exactly how hexadecimal works. As for the grooves, this is where you can add swing or change the time signature. Here’s a section from the manual that should help, “Grooves allow defining the speed of each of the 16 steps in a phrase by altering the number of ticks each step consumes. This allows swing, shuffle, triplets, and faster phrases. See the section on common grooves in the appendix. Groove “00” is the default groove for all 8 tracks. Each track can use a different groove independently. Assign a groove to a track by using the groove (“GRV”) FX command in a phrase. Add swing to a song by navigating to the Groove view that is located above the phrase [SHIFT]+[UP]. Start the song by pressing [SHIFT]+[PLAY] and edit the value in row 0 by using [EDIT]+[UP or DOWN]. Notice that it alters both rows 0 and 1 at the same time. A common swing setting is 07,05 or 08,04. The Groove Math(s) The M8 has a resolution of 24 ticks per quarter note (24PPQ). Since there are 4 six- teenth notes in a quarter note and each row in a phrase represents a sixteenth note in time, there are 6 ticks per row (24PPQ / 4 sixteenth notes = 6 ticks). Therefore by default all grooves have two rows of “06”. If you want to stick with the same count, the total ticks in a phrase should be equal to 96 (16 steps x 6 ticks per step). When editing a groove there is a help message at the bottom of the screen that sums the ticks for your convenience.”

Dumb question. How do you load samples? Or can you record directly into it? I have the Polyend tracker mini and although it’s a tracker it’s way different

How many songs can be saved on M8? Is it 255 patterns per song or it can save totally only 255 patterns? Thanks
@equinoxambient

If you’re asking about complete songs then that depends on the size of your SD card. As far as patterns per project then yes it is 255 per song. Here’s some more info: • 8 Monophonic Tracks/Voices • 255 Patterns/Phrases & chains • 256 Instrument Tables for advanced modulation • 128 Instruments per song • Song Arranger with Live mode • Instantaneous song recall • Full MIDI input & Output support You can make some seriously long arrangements if that’s what you’re worried about :)
