Yeah that shot of the shield at the end was really praised when this episode was released, it's a fantastic shot with the polar opposite of Steve Rogers being the only super soldier ever to not be corrupted by power. Also as others have said, Wyatt Russell does a fantastic job playing the role of a top soldier trying to emulate Captain America in this series, with the doubts having been beaten by the Dora Milaje and the super soldiers themselves, and then losing his best friend.

Steve used guns in the first Captain America movie during the war. The difference between Steve Rogers and John Walker..... Steve - grew up at a time where it was good vs evil, he was a hopeful individual who wante to help save the world but not necessarily kill anyone. John - a soldier who has already seen the darkness of war. He probably had ptsd. Karli on the other hand is disillusioned by what the government is doing. So the super soldier serum is affecting them all differently

I mean wtf is the Government doing there? 5 years ago 4 Billion people just vanished and the whole world collapsed, now those 4 Billion people suddenly reappear in a World that ain't build to sustain that much people anymore. It is a unthinkable Scenario. Karli is delusional to think that a World that was thrown into chaos has the resources to sustain 4 Billion people showing up out of nowhere. That's like you getting fired from your Job, your House burns down and then someone loads 3 Children off at your doorstep expecting you to take care of them. It sucks because it's possible to have a villain who's motives makes sense, who you can understand how they justify their actions, while still understanding they're wrong _and_ having them face a hero who _does_ actually create change while fighting them. The Daredevil series for example did it perfectly with Wilson Fisk (+Dex) and The Punisher when up against DD himself.

A lot of reactors have missed it, but Walker absolutely has PTSD. They also forget what Erskine said in the first Captain America film: "The serum amplifies everything that is inside. So good becomes great, bad becomes worse." Steve was a good man who hadn't endured the trauma of war before the serum. Walker already had PTSD. Already had the stress and strain of trying to live up to the mantle. All that anger, self-doubt and trauma...enhanced by the serum. Karli is the same way. She was already an angry woman who felt like she and others who remained after 'The Blip' no longer have a place in the world. The serum amplified all of that. Steve used a gun during WWII as well, but the point was to show that Walker has to rely on them more. Steve had the serum to enhance him so he could go hand-to-hand with people Walker just couldn't.

But here, John Walker litterally executed someone, out of rage on top of that, which is something Steve Rogers would never have done.

This whole series is a favourite of mine within the Marvel universe. I love how much deeper they go into the characters' inner thoughts and experiences, how many real world issues and morality questions they bring into a sci-fi/fantasy setting. I love Bucky and Sam's (like you said in the previous episode:) buddy-cop dynamics. Props to the writers and Daniel Brühl for making Zemo, my second most hated villain in the MCU, so likeable and fun to watch. I'm still a bit on and off about him but now I don't want to physically reach into the screen and punch him in the throat. On another note, I so clearly remember watching this episode for the first time and my stomach just gradually dropping until that final scene and seeing Captain America take out a weaponless innocent with such rage and agression and then seeing that bloody shield... It was just so Wrong and Not Steve and something about destroying and disrespecting such a symbol of rightness and safety and peace... it made me feel physically unwell for a good 8 hours. Whew, it's been two-ish years and I'm still not normal about this episode.

One thing that was mentioned by several people from colonized&exploiting countries when this ep came out (and I agree, but you probably won't) is that Steve Rogers as Captain America is the representation of how the USA sees itself, and John Walker as Captain America in EP 4 is how the USA really is (in the eyes of us, colonized and exploiting countries). Many people outside the USA also agreed with Karli's position, again, something that didn't happen with most people from the USA (at least in the reacts I saw), when they were starting to agree with her, the writers make her commit these acts in EP 4 to reinforce it in a certain way that she is the real villain, not the government that abandoned the people they promised to protect and help. Honestly, apart from Moon Knight, for me, this is the best Marvel series. I love when Marvel tries to do something close to realistic (that's why my favorite movie is Civil War). Great reaction once again guys 🩷

Curse youtube for not giving me a notif for this. This episode is possibly my favorite of the series. Mostly for the end scene. Walker just watched his best friend die, the one who has basically kept his level head for him. What could break a Captain America? Losing his best friend. Shows what Steve could of chosen as a path after he saw Bucky fall off the train in the first Captain America movie. That alone was such a powerful juxtaposition between the two. But then Walker using the Shield to kill the dude? Insane, that's what it screams. Steve killed people, has used guns, but he was anti-bully and held himself back against unarmed people and weaker enemies. His shield was never used as a weapon to kill. To see it splattered with the blood of a dead enemy, that shocked me to my core when I first saw it. Your comment on how the line between bad guys and good guys is blurring is so true. I am actually happy it is though, the idea someone is purely evil or purely good is childish to me. In real world what we view is good and evil is often subjective. People can view the god guys as the bad guys from their side. Not to mention more often then not people have their own moral's. Its why communication is the most important thing. Sam was actually getting somewhere. All these complexities make me so happy because it makes people think.

SPOILER! The Serum brings out the best of someone. With Walker, he's Glory Hound, hero who's got to save the day, and against all odds, when the team is down, and seconds left on the clock, he saves the game... Mentality! The series has been a character building series for Walker, as much as it has been for Carli, Falcon, Bucky and Zemo as well. Even though most of those names mentioned were already known, look at there arcs through this series, and they've had more character building! Mostly it was Walker in the series, from the highlights of his Football days in College, to his glorified battles as a soldier, to the taking of the mantle and being the hero the country thinks they need, to showing up at the last moment in a few skirmishes so far in the series! In every scene he's in, he steals the show by literally coming across as a self prophesized hero to do what only he believes he can do. The Serum took all that from him and made him to that raging monster, after losing his best friend before his own eyes, what we saw at the end of episode 4!

I think it’s important to note that even if Karli’s crew wasn’t all in on her plans, they still followed through on it and actively participated. The guy that Walker kills was seconds beforehand holding Walker physically hostage so Karli could stab him to death. He was entirely okay with helping to kill Walker. They all went there with the full intention to murder. Just because Karli is the one to physically kill the wrong person it doesn’t mean the rest of the flag smashers weren’t accomplices to the crime. The guy may not have physically done the deed, but he helped create the situation that nearly killed Walker and actually killed Lemar, at the end of the day, he was just as much responsible as Karli. So the whole “it wasn’t me” thing is rather hollow, because it was also him, the rest of them, and Karli. They’re all responsible. And to Walker in that moment of grief, he would hardly have cared to distinguish who physically did it, they all caused him harm and pain, none of them would be innocent in his eyes. They just all attempted to kill him and killed his best friend instead, that’s the same kind of rage that we have even seen MCU heroes like Hawkeye and Black Panther have all fallen into.

May I suggest you watch, or even react to New Rockstars Marvel tv show easter eggs breakdown videos for both Wandavision and Falcon and the Winter Soldier. This may fill in the blanks of details you may have forgotten about, or never knew for the story and/or characters. So many great easter eggs and callbacks to the comics. Here's what I will say about John. He is damaged goods from trauma caused by being a war vet a few times over. Seeing the things that he seen seeps into your brain and becomes part of your dna. Sam is a rare case. Him being a counselor probably helped that he already knows the tools to work through that. . Tony went through PTSD after New York's battle. Each person reacts differently once something traumatic happens to them. John was wrong for killing that guy.... And yet, I had to think about that too. Yes. They killed Lemar by accident, but they were all there to murder Walker and parade his body to the world in order to make a statement. How much sympathy is that guy owed? He knew, as a super soldier, that he and the others could kill Walker easier, and was still willing to help kill him. Walker would have been dead if he didn't take that serum and his reflexes didn't get faster. That guy threw that blade at his throat with such force that the blade was stuck in to the handle. Steve had a pure heart, but he got the serum before seeing battle. So maybe it would have made him harder or more aggressive, or maybe just like he turned out. Walker tried several times to connect with Sam and Bucky, and they rejected him. I would get tired of getting the cold shoulder every time I tried to extend and olive branch too. Because he wasn't Steve in the suit they instantly treated him like trash. He wasn't some random guy picked right out of basic training, like Steve. He earned his title and served time in war...which annoyed me that both Sam and Bucky couldn't respect him as a fellow soldier( veteran... especially Bucky). Walker had to deal with: no cooperation from Sam and Bucky while they undermined his job, an escaped Zemo on his watch, a group who has now bumped themselves into terrorists, and pressure from the American government to show some results and make them look good to the world....he is carrying a lot on his shoulders. Now his best friend from childhood, and who he's survived several war tours with, was just murdered in front of him, for him. Yeah...there was no way he wasn't going to short fuse. Notice his head ticks when he was attacked with the blade? Notice his hand shaking after he bludgeoned that guy and stood there holding the shield? That was the effects of the serum. He was also in an alert adrenaline state because of the attack. It's like the serum is definitely messing with his mind. Add that plus: alpha testosterone, ptsd (of which the government seemed less concerned about his mental health than using him like they first used Steve) , government/media pressure, and the fresh murder of his best friend together and you've got a powder keg waiting to blow up. One could say the same about Karli. She is an angry displaced young woman who took the serum. All that anger built up in her and she is now obsessed with getting her way, no matter what it takes. Karli is leading her people to hell for doing extreme things, like murder. Sam was getting through to her, but when do you give the same thought to Walker? Walker is trying to be "the man with the plan" because it's the same dog and pony show as they used to make Steve do, til he disobeyed the government and made a house hold name for himself by becoming a real hero. Karli is young, but old enough to know how to make the right choice. The speech Sam gave to Zemo about blood shed not being the answer is also exactly what he should have said to Karli. I guess either way, she wasn't going to listen to him, because she was determined to carry out her desperate agenda. Doing evil in the name of justice or good is more sinister than just being pure evil, because you fool yourself. Walker does need to learn that there are more heroes on the board now. The world outside of the U.S. don't really care about him....a lot in the U.S. feel the same. To him, maybe this was just another war and that guy was no different than a war criminal. It's still a tragedy that the serum screwed with an already messed up mind. Idt John is "Red Skull" evil....just "damaged goods" , that went too far on one of his attempted murderers. ...Almost like he and Karli are two sides of the same coin. Both have good agendas, just wrong executions of it.

As Dr. Abraham Erskine did in Captain America: First Avengers, the selection of supermen takes time and it is better to look for someone who does not seek to kill but to save lives.

Sam, who said to Government officials who are faced with 4 Billion people suddenly returning from the Dead, in a collapsed world that by no means has the capabilities to sustain the sudden massive population increase, "Do better" and then giving *not a single suggestion how they can do better* because there is no way. Ever dumb MF can say "do better." Hell, his whole Speech was that of a Karen. Right down to "Lets not call Terrorists Terrorists, that's a bad word!"

the shot of the new Captain there killing the guy is also kinda a throw back to when Steve did the same move on Tony and just hit his arc reactor. Steve chose to disable after Tony almost killed Steve's best friend, and our new guy was all about ending the enemy.

I SOOO agree with Mason that we need more of Bucky and Zemo. . Bucky is my favorite and I would LOVE to get a LOT more of him. Sebastian Stan brings so much depth to the character. And Daniel Brühl as Zemo is also great.

So kind of bring you back up to speed because you said you don’t remember Zeno, his family died in Segovia, which was destroyed because of a villain in avengers two in Captain America, Civil War, he frames Bucky with the bombing of the UN that the avengers end up splitting up on different sides hence the term Civil War. He caused Captain America to fight Iron Man once Iron Man found out that Bucky had killed his parents when he was still the winter soldier. He got arrested by Black Panther once it was found out that it was actually Zemo who bombed the UN and killed Black Panther’s father. Hope this helps you kind of remember what happened. Unless you’ve never seen Civil War, which, in that case you really should

What was kind of heartbreaking for me was the fact that the guy killed by the shield had just stated earlier that he was inspired by it. It did give him hope and to think that his demise came from what encouraged and inspired him was just so tragic on so many levels. I have to say that I really despised Paul Walker for tainting the shield in this horrific way.

I will say that when I first watched this series I couldn't stand John and that was because Wyatt did such an amazing job of creating this character that was so unlikeable. And having sat with it, it sort of makes sense. Because in a way he was thrust into this position to pick up the mantel that represented so much to so many different people. And then having to carry that legacy and factor in that he technically was the second choice because it was supposed to be Sam. I also remember from the First Avenger, when the Doctor was explaining to Steve that the serum enhanced what was already in you. That was why they picked Steve because it enchanced what was already good about him. For John, I think the doubt was already there from everything I've mentioned and that doubt led to that underlying anger. And so much of this episode really showed how out of the loop he is, you have Bucky and Sam basically doing everything and trying to reason with Karli. John was bound to take the serum because doubt was clouding his judgement and he was probably angry at himself for not being a better Captain America. And Lemer said he always made good decisions....but I imagine in combat he had to make the best decisions in the moment...even if it meant harming others. This was just an extreme of that. Besides all of that I absolutely loved the interaction with Ayo and Bucky and when she did the thing to his arm 😂 hilarious!
