Nick is just too damn good at storytelling. We need more history teachers like him. Screw the pc public school system and make learning fun again. Yes soldier on meth or if you want a really good pull at your heart strings story do Sargent reckless. Either way I know we are gonna enjoy which ever you pick. 😊

A lot of people think that the machine guns that Nic is talking about are assault rifles, but there were no assault rifles back then. Assault rifles didn’t appear until the tail end of WW2. The machine guns in this story are stationary guns, rotary guns, basically the 1800’s version of a Gatling gun.

My favorite is the Samuel Whittemore one. Guy is a whole mood. Reminds me of my family. I am 34 and I had great grandparents alive in high school… 3 of them. Those beautiful bastards had that same vibe of FAFO. My gunga, at 104 rode a dirt bike for the first time and obsessed over it. Sam Whittemore was the “I’m here to fuck and fight” version of that old ass energy. May we all ride into Valhalla on dirt bikes in our triple digits.

My favorite is Jack McNasty. I’m gonna tell you. It’s fun to go back watch his old stuff which is more short form I think no more than 4 minutes then see him start doing this style which is much more long form.

Just a note about Nick (The Chubby Electron Guy). He's currently taking college classes to get a degree (can't remember if it's a Master's or Doctorate) in history so he can change history books to put things like the stories he tells back into them. All of his videos are awesome. Also, small note about your videos, I find your volume to be very low compared to your intro/outro music. Keep up the great work.

Thanks for the heads up! I'll work on normalizing the audio levels. Hopefully I can get it fixed in the next video.

Small criticism. Nic's math was off. Daly was 26 when he inlisted an 28 in China.

Technically Dan Daly wasn't alone in China fighting off the rebels. He had a loader for his 1895 Colt Browning Machine Gun, but I believe the loader was wounded early in the fight.

I love how he starts this one with "make your prediction...200 kungfu vs 1 marine with a machine gun" with zero context... obviously a seasoned marine with a modern machine gun it would be over before it started... nothing really badass about that... but an inexperienced 18 year old marine with an 1890s machine gun is a bit different story. Also that Raiders clip is a bit misleading too... that character was 1 person flexing waiting for a sword fight... if you have 200 guys that thing bullets cant hurt them and so they have zero caution bumrushing you, its only a matter of time before the mass of humanity gets close enough... even a single machine gun cant put bullets EVERYwhere and will have a hard time catching everyone fast enough. So yeah, it was a very real probability that he'd get overrun by the kungfu guys...so it was badass thatnhe didnt.

I really can't blame the French for wanting to retreat. The French Military gets a bad reputation because of the early stages of WWII. At the time of Belleau Wood, the French are a very seasoned army with years of fighting Trench Warfare. Because of bad leadership and some other problems, they had mutinied in 1917, and refused to fight offensively(basically the French Generals had ordered men to keep attacking heavily fortified enemy positions and didn't care how many French soldiers died. The Generals also refused to change tactics when things didn't work, they just continued with the failed methods.). General Petain was put in charge and helped restore order and morale. However the French Soldiers were still very wary of fighting against strong and dug in enemy positions. They did not want another Verdun or Ypres.

You should consider editing out dead/wasted time like when you repeatedly play the first 3 seconds of the video without saying anything.
