Daryl: “Yo J.C., you takin’ requests?” This first episode of season 2 was just awesome. I was fine with Rick and Lori agreeing to take Carl and Dale encouraging it. It might seem like the woods are more dangerous but, in fact, everywhere is dangerous. The RV wasn't a "safe zone"; if another herd were to come through on the highway, he'd have an old man and a half-dead T-Dog to protect him instead of Rick, Shane, Daryl, Glenn, Andrea, and Lori. Plus, Rick and Lori are his parents, and no one if going to keep him safer than his parents. Obviously it turned out bad but I still don't think Dale was wrong in this instance.

I love Dale as well. I don't see his actions at the CDC as him "Saving Andrea" but rather, him recognizing that Andrea is the only other person he cares about, so if she goes, he's now in the position she was. On top of that, if Andrea REALLY wanted out, she could've stayed anyway. She clearly cares about Dale and her leaving to save HIM proves that. Daryl is a late bloomer. He get better as time goes on, he's one the few people that consistently makes logical decisions.
@Ysmir.

I agree on Dale's actions in CDC. I remember though that i was pissed with him for the gun thing -that he took away Andrea's gun, the gun she got from her dad far as i remember and Dale just decided that she can't have it less she shoot herself or whatever. I remember thinking it was high handed, that he had no right to take away her means to protect herself in an apocalyptic world just because he thought he knew better. As much as Andrea annoyed me, i was with her on this one thing.
@justcaustin
2 жыл бұрын
@@Ysmir. Yeah I agree, I think not giving her the gun was overprotective and unnecessary. The Walking Dead is fairly unique in the fact that it doesn't really have one specific main character. Rick's story is just the focal point for jumping off because it's the perfect story to start a zombie apocalypse series with. There are plenty of other stories than Rick's, and even more than Rick's group. It's easier to think of it in terms of primary, secondary, and tertiary characters.

Trivia: The whole premiere during the beginning of the episode has been cut in half and we are seeing just the later half of it. There’s a whole deleted scene up in KZitem where the group goes back to Atlanta and meeting up with the Vatos group from Season 1. Sadly the Vatos group got annihilated on the way back as they are murdered by some unknown group. Before they go to the place of the Vatos group, the group still road trip’s their way and Shane’s vehicle got his tires blown up. He then gets out on foot while running and shooting as a horde of walkers is on his back. Later on he gets a ride in a RV after going back for Shane. That can be found on a Season 2 trailer that is also uploaded in KZitem.

I love your enthusiastic reactions when stuff starts to get real. Thank you guys for allowing us to watch with you guys and see/hear your reactions. I can assure you that the Walking Dead is worth the watch all the way through. The fact that they used the word "herd" to refer to a large group of the undead is genius, especially because it's easy to forget that nobody in TWD knows what zombies are, let alone what a group of them is commonly referred to as. I'd also like to point out that Daryl saved T-Dog's ass here on the highway, despite any differences between T-Dog and Daryl's brother Merle.

Just wanted to mention a couple of my favorite scenes that weren't included. Not a criticism or complaint, by the way. This episode is so chock full of great and/or important moments, you couldn't possibly include them all. Anyway, the scene where Carol is praying in the church never fails to move me to tears. Imagining Carol's heartbreak and worry over her daughter, combined with asking God to punish her, not Sophia, for praying for Ed's death (when she realized he was starting to look at their daughter in a way that no adult should look at a child, especially a father). Beautifully written, with a memorable and moving performance from Melissa McBride. Also loved the scene where Daryl tells Carol and the others that all their wishing, hoping and praying is a waste of time. We're led to expect he's going to tell them they're foolish for holding out hope for Sophia. But then he flips it around by saying they're going to find that little girl and she's going to be just fine. Then he adds the perfect Daryl line, "Good lord. Am I the only one zen around here?" LOL As I always do, loved your analysis and episode discussion. Spot on, as usual. I was so excited to see your reaction to this one, and you did not disappoint!

It makes no sense to have had Carl tag along. You have walkers roaming around trying to eat you alive and you’ve just lost one child..you’re not taking a tour of Disney land. I liked Andrea’s speech to Dale. I also understood her irritation; they’re treating her like a child. Don’t okay a child to go on a rescue mission & then deny me, an adult, a gun. She had a moment of weakness at the cdc, they need to stop being so condescending towards her. Good reaction!

Dale a security hard ass that is always about people's welfare, Carl's mother just saw another Mother lose her child lets him go out in the WOODS? And Rick a officer of the law is going to put his child at risk? No. That had me scratching my head for weeks.

The commentary from the both of you is great. Enjoying your TWD reactions immensely. The spontaneous sticking it to the show ("what a cliff hanger...f*ck you!") is absolutely brilliant. Take your time with the episodes. The intervals are great teasers.

„I don’t know why I‘m expecting something hor-“ the timing on that one hahah😂💀 yeah I mean Rick did ask J.C for a sign.. If that’s the sign he was asking for tho.. great reaction as always ! You guys are gonna love season 2 and „what lies ahead“. Shane and Rick both giving Dad vibes tho😂😭 I thought the same during my first watch like ufff .. kinda uncomfortable for everyone here I guess 😅🥹 and love how slowly you two are realizing why people love Daryl so much🙏🏻 And the ranking was awesome btw! Hope you’re going to do that after every season! It’s so nice to see how you view certain characters and also maybe or maybe not see it change by time! And I gotta say, with this show I honestly think by hearing your views on all the characters and which ones your favorites are and which ones not and why says a lot about what kind of people you are as well🤔☺️ whenever I’m watching TWD with friends or watching reactions it’s always interesting to see how & what they think about the different characters because that shows quite a lot where their morals lie😅😌 the next one is one of my (many) favorites of the season. Hope you enjoy!🙋🏼♀️

I 100% agree with you guys about the Dale and Andrea issue. Life is too valuable in the REAL world, let alone in a zombie apocalypse. You need every life you can get. Dale did save her life, and the fact that she’s able to fight for her life here shows that she wants to live on some level. If Dale let her commit suicide, it would be letting her make an emotional, irrational decision in her grief for her sister. We should be trying to protect each other, and be there for each other when we are grieving. Dale is a hero for saving Andrea. Honestly, Andrea really drives me nuts sometimes. I don’t really like the actress, but she also is very whiny. I have empathy for her loss, but her monologue about “this endless horrific nightmare” just makes me want to play a sad violin in mocking, idk. Like yeah, things suck right now but these guys need to stay positive. I’m just not an Andrea fan honestly.

Yeh, I see that, however I fall on the side of one person's life is that person's business and there is no one else that has the right to force that person to live. I think acute depression should be overcome, and thought given, but after that it is up to the person. Especially in a situation like this. It is selfish to make someone live for your benefit because you need people around. It is also selfish of the person to commit suicide, but I think it is still their right to decide. Plus when you let the person decide that yeh they want to live, you don't have them stringing along this idea of suicide and multiple attempts. They need to decide if they want to live.

@@rydout I see what you’re trying to say, but to me, Dale’s line about caring for Andrea doesn’t automatically mean he was being selfish. Him saying “This isn’t what Amy would want for you” implies he did it for her well being, not for himself. As such a wise character that he is, he probably knew that she had the will to live, and that this was just a fleeting moment. He didn’t steal her choice from her, in a way, he gave her time to make a more rational decision in a better mental state. Him staying to die with her if that is her choice, was actually HIS choice, about HIS life without Andrea. He was doing the same thing Andrea was doing with losing Amy. He didn’t drag her out and force her to live. If someone is to believe that Andrea should be allowed that choice, then Dale is allowed that choice too. His choice for his life depended on her fate, whether she likes it or not. Either that, or he was making a point about what she was doing with Amy, and the point stands, cause clearly she did choose to live. If that was a selfish choice for Dale because it depended on her life, then it was a selfish choice for Andrea, because it depended on Amy’s life. Suicide help lines are a thing for a reason, talking someone out of suicide isn’t automatically taking their choice from them, or dragging them and forcing them through life. It’s supportive and selfless. Where I disagree with Dale, is I think he should have just had a better conversation with her this episode, and given her a gun. I still believe it is with selfless intention, but like Rob said, we can’t babysit her, unfortunately…

@@gurgashmire Yes most people come out the other side given a little bit of time. Some don't. Some just don't want to be here and just imo it's no one else's place to force a person to be here. I liked Dale, but to me he is one of those people that imposes his morals on every one else. Sometimes he was right, sometimes not.
