I'll try to post my photos of the various watches I've owned, and comment on the history of ownership. All the pics are mine, taken over the years. This would be my first 'photo-worthy' watch. As a kid, in the early 80s, I had a video game watch (tank going across screen, avoiding falling bombs, using 2 buttons on dial!). I then had a Swatch and some tough multifunction watches (Indiglo was/still is very cool). I then had a Guess watch, and finally an ESQ (Esquire) two tone (with 2 dolphins to indicate 100m water resistance and overall coolness).
This TAG was my first 'nice' watch. While in Japan, a friend had said that her boyfriend told her that a great wedding gift for him would be a TAG Heuer, since they'd only be able to afford such a luxury at that time in their lives, before kids, house, etc.
I thought that this was a great philosophy, so thought about getting a TAG at some point in my life. I remember looking at ebay and drooling over various TAGs and Movado Museums at the time. I didn't think I'd get one any time soon.
Then, they had a discount watch store in Japan called Watchman. Many watches were very expensive, but they had a ladies 2000 blue face 'Seychelles' special edition on clearance for $400 or something ridiculous like that. My girlfriend (now wife) and I bought it, walked downtown to the Patek dealer, who also sold TAG, who had the exact same watch for $2500. As a result, we sat and chatted with the salesman there for some time, and got to hold a few Pateks.
Then, because my girlfriend got so lucky, I decided to purchase this watch from a reputable dealer on ebay. It was NOS, which I believe means was never used other than as a display piece. I think I paid $1100 USD.
I had liked TAG Heuer since I started liking F1 racing in the early 90s. TAG was a sponsor and timer of the races. I then liked the s/el design and was hooked. I chose black because my girlfriend said it'd be better to have something that's more neutral. I wanted the blue, as the seller had both in NOS condition, but I decided to go neutral and so bought this one. I had no idea that this would become the 'Bourne Watch' so to speak, as his LINK is the follower of this watch. So this watch has a Senna/Bourne appeal looking back now.
At the time (2001), the LINK was already established for a few years, but I wanted to go back to the original that I had always liked, so I purchased the s/el. I chose quartz because of accuracy, not knowing about automatics whatsoever - I assumed 'automatic' meant charging a battery automatically. I had no idea that there were gears and pinions and springs, etc.
The first few photos in this video are the sales post pics on which I based the purchase. I had a choice between brushed and polished bezels, and chose the polished (I'd choose brushed nowadays). I also had a choice of brushed/polished or alternating (like in the video) links. I chose all brushed links, which was the best choice in my opinion. When I got the watch, the chronograph hands stuck. I pulled out the crown, held in the pushers, which adjusts the chronograph hands' default positions, and that electric impulse moved the hands and they worked perfectly thereafter. I assumed they were slightly stuck from not being used for a few years and just needed an impulse.
I had it for about a year and sold it for my LINK automatic chronograph (next video). I lost a bit on the sale, only getting $800 USD for it, which was my first real watch lesson.
These are all my original pictures. I decided not to do a 'review' overdub of positives and negatives about the watch, as I don't want to criticize ownership of the watch, or taint people's views either way. Spend your money on whatever you want and enjoy it. However, please comment or message me on any specific question you may have on its ownership.
