Wow! This was a popular video for our channel!!! Thank you each and every one for all the interest and love shown to us. And a HUGE thank and welcome to all of you who found us because of your love for the Revel. We’re glad you’re with us and realize that we’re old enough to be mom and dad for most of you... we’re OK with that if you are. One of the saddest days for our granddaughter was when she realized that she could not get any younger if she wanted to. Most of us know that but we can act younger in mind and spirit and hope the body follows along. There were lots of great questions about our decision about switching from a Travato to a Revel. The most asked or talked about feature was of course the cassette toilet. To be honest it’s going to be a bigger challenge that we thought it would be. But thanks to many of you who have them I’ve learned that I did it all wrong or at least could have done a few things better. Even so it will be a learning experience for sure. There were lots of questions about our tires too... what was wrong... what did we replace them with . What was wrong was all 4 tires were so badly out of round the shop could not balance them so they were going to hop and bounce at certain speeds. We were so happy our dealer was so great about making sure we were happy and not just because of that we HIGHLY recommend Bob Ledford’s Adventure Motorhomes in Greer, SC. We chose to replace the KO2s with Michelin Agilis Cross Climates in the factory size. We toyed around with the idea of going up a tire size to 265’s but learned that a modification to the van would be needed for them not to rub and one of us didn’t feel comfortable with one of us sawing away part of the fender. The reason for the Michelins??... we live on the east coast so most of our driving is on pavement even though we plan to spend more time on dirt roads getting to them is 95% of the driving. We had those tires on our previous van and they were the best we’ve ever chosen. We’ll see if that was a good choice or not. The bed was also asked about a lot. Do we think we’ll sleep as well as we did in the twin beds of the Travato. So far the answer is we love our little bedroom cave. We did create a DIY topper and bedding set that hopefully will add a little more comfort to it but even with just the factory mattress we slept great. But again only time will tell... one of us snores and one of us tosses and turns so... 😂. And finally we wanted to send out a HUGE thank you each of you who have been with us for this entire journey. Your words of support, the love you show through your comments and the suggestions of places to see and improvements to take to the van(s) have added to our happiness. The best part about putting our journey out there with our videos is waking up on Monday mornings and hearing all the things you guys have to say. If you could only see the smiles you bring to our faces you’d know how much you mean to us. Enough typing... we’re packing up the Revel for our first real trip in it and we have to get busy. We can’t wait to share that with you next Sunday.

We are itching and hopefully tomorrow starts that long awaited journey. Yes, Owen loves his “Cousin Eddie”. It is a very important part of this van though in reality. If that is a pain point the love for the van goes down. Those we know who have it say it becomes second nature like picking Maggie’s poop. We’ll see.

Welcome to the world of cassette toilets! Lol. We love ours in our Hymer Aktiv, however, we use it only for #1. Haven't found ourselves in a situation where we couldn't find a public toilet for everything else. But we haven't travelled too far with this Covid either. Yes the toilet does flush automatically as you poor the cassette waste in, and it is actually easier than trying to dump down a tiny hole in the ground. In Europe campgrounds and pit stops, they actually have lid free toilets for dumping cassette waste (outside) as it is very popular there. You'll find it super easy once you get used to it and may never want to deal with a stinky slinky again. :D

Thanks for your positive comment on the toilet, we definitely considered it as a positive aspect to the van, but as we have noticed it’s not for everyone. I totally agree we will get better at it and we are getting a lot of helpful suggestions in this weeks comment.

Only 9k miles due to Covid but looking forward to 21.. We didn’t purchase from Ledford due to inventory but started there - they were wonderful to work with. They are still family owned and hopefully stays that way. We live in Charlotte and wound up purchasing at Colonial in NJ another family owned wonderful dealer. Happy trails- the Revel is awesome looking - shame to hear about the tires. Stay safe.

Well that is awesome to hear that our video was such a perfect fit for you. We’ll add your suggestions and make sure we cover these items more in the next few months. We don’t want the channel to become totally about the vehicle that gets you to adventure but we totally understand that we’re in a unique position to report how well the Revel supports this goal . Right now we’re adding so much to the van that an alarm system is not on the radar but unlike you we don’t hit up cities in it very often. But it’s so small that it will open up city possibilities even more. Come to think of it, we plan to spend a rainy day in the city of Asheville on Wednesday so maybe we should get something besides our guard 🐕 😂. Thanks for being with us for so long!!!!!

I see a big propane tank coming for the griddle. mount in back on OWL accessories and have hose to connect the griddle. cassette toilets are easy to dump in pit and vault toilets in NF and other places were they are common - trying to dump in the small dump station opening designed for a hose is tricky

Yes I (Owen) agree. In fact we have a Sherpa on order with John. I told him this morning that our van is going to resemble that Leonard commercial where the guy says to his buddy “It’s not a Chevy... it’s a Leonard”. 😂. And yes, we’re hoping that was the worst experience we will have with the cassette toilet. It wasn’t terrible but definitely messier and takes longer than dumping with one hose and both black/grey dumps happening without having to reconnect or see the “stuff” 😝

We have a basic porta potty and I don’t mind dumping it at all. There’s not much to break and you can buy a replacement in any camping store if it does break. I crave simplicity. As to dumping in a toilet: it’s easy. Just pour and the added liquid flushes itself as you go. Flush when finished, obviously be nice and wipe up splashes, if any, and get out before the smell reaches out. And it is a fog of impenetrable sewage that rises out of the bowl believe me. But it’s so easy to dump anywhere there’s a toilet - anytime. I will be interested to see the value of four wheel drive.

Thanks for the information on the toilet, we feel the same way about being able to dump it anywhere and I’m sure with a little practice we will get better at it. Hi,guys! We love the cassette toilet because we can dump it in vault toilets that are in most state & national forests or at trail heads. Also, check out van insurance with Progressive. For the first six years of ownership, they have replacement of a new van if a repair is not able to be made, and the rate is comparable.

Traveled around in pick-up campers for years with a porta potty, worked just fine. Sure is a lot of interest in the cassette toilet. My three personal requirements in an rv are a good bed, working fridge, and a toilet, cause I am not going out to the pit toilet at nite, oh heck no! An FYI about the propane, I purchased a very small propane tank for my grill so I could chuck the little greenies. Have seen so many changes with camping over the years but the one thing that doesn’t change is the happiness it can bring when everything goes right LOL, and a good story for the next campfire if things go south. (I need to get mine down on paper, funny stuff!). 🤣🤣

Just found your channel, liked this video, and have subscribed! We have a 2020 Revel and many of the things you walked through on your 2021 are also relevant to us as well. Did the 2021 come with a spare tire? Our 2020 did not and we bought a full sized spare that fits underneath. Eventually I want to mount a spare tire holder on the back, maybe on a Sherpa, and convert the underside area for fuel or water. Also watch Jim and Cynthia's channel as well and, like you, am interested in many of the mods that they have made. (By the way, we're older too so you're a perfect fit for us!) Happy trekking!

All I've ever had was Porta potties. Our pop-up came with one, and while our second trailer had a teeny bathroom, we didn't like the trailer and only went on two short trips in it. And it sold so fast that we didn't have time to empty the full black tank. We were still cleaning it and getting it ready for sale and somebody came and bought it, so I dodged a bullet there. Lol We have yet to use the Travato bathroom except for a few late night pees because we haven't really been anywhere yet. I'm dreading having to learn how to do that. A cassette toilet looks more like something I'm more familiar with.

Congratulation's on your purchase. So that we are all clear on the comparison ,the 2020 and 21 kl Travato has apps for all of the things you spoke about as well. The awning light will come on if in or out. Running board lighting is standard. not sure from the Winnebago side there is much difference. Your going to find out from a sleeping stand point, that you will be waking each other up if you have to go to the bathroom. It sounds to me that you should of purchased the Winnebago Boldt. It has the sprinter chassis with 4l wheel drive options but all of the room of the Travato and its a true 4 season rig. None the less its about getting out there no mater what you use.
@VANTREKKINGlifestyle

Wow! Thanks for the awesome comment of info. We seriously considered the Boldt but ground clearance was a concern so we chose the Revel. The extra $$ for Boldt 4x4 was a factor too. And we actually want to force ourselves out of our comfort zone foe a few years. After 8 nights in it we have woke each other up a few times but most nights now we do not. Think we've solved that but even at home we wake each other up with a king bed. You are right though.... Just get out there is the goal. Thanks for being with us.

Owen maybe your next gig will be standup-the toilet dump was hilarious. I beg to differ on the lifespan of a diesel nowadays. Removing the sulfur from diesel fuel reduces the lubricity that aided long life for a diesel. What brand of tires were on the van? Unbelievable that Quality Control is that terrible now. I hope your new van is everything you dreamed it would be.
@VANTREKKINGlifestyle

Well, Lynn laughs at me a lot... sometimes even at my jokes. 😝 You are correct about nothing lasting as long as it once did... I wrote a song with a line in it that said “I was made before that started making things cheap”. and that’s really true these days. But the torque is the main draw for us with the diesel. Quality control is not what it should be. Winnebago should have caught that... delivery driver should have caught it... dealer should have caught it (but they never drive at speeds once delivered to their lots). We went with Michelin Agilis Cross Climate tires. Even going off road 90% of our driving in on hard tops to get to locations and we chose to sacrifice a little dirt grab for better fuel mileage and road comfort. Had them on the Travato and they made a huge difference in that van on the road.

Hey, Debbie - it's all a matter of perspective. As someone who has never dumped a black tank yet, a cassette toilet looks easy peasy to me. Portapotties are something I've had experience with since the '70s and tents. But I'm dreading having to empty the Travato tank for the first time. Ick.
@dfloyd888
3 жыл бұрын
@@trishbenedict6588 If I can do it, anyone can. The hard part about a cassette toilet is slinging the cassette out and putting it on the ground to wheel to the dump site, then rinsing the cassette before throwing back in. The upside is that you can carry more than one cassette, so if boondocking and fill one up, put it on a hitch mounted cargo rack, and grab another. I personally prefer black and gray tanks because it is just one action to hook up the sewage hose, then let fly with the black, and follow up with the gray. However, the floor plan of the Revel makes it impossible to have a gray tank (no front dinette floor plan can have both a black and gray tank, with the exception of the Travato which uses a shower pump and a macerator pump). It isn't hard to get used to, so it isn't too much of a change. I've never had issues with emptying black tanks, and have been RV-ing for about ten years. One trick I do is to have a 90 degree corner elbow which will screw in or at least wedge into most dump stations. I attach the hose to that, then the other end of the hose to the RV. No spills or anything. I also make sure that the black and gray tanks are almost brimming before emptying, so the black tank has no chance of getting clogs, and the gray tank thoroughly flushes out the hose.

OK Owen now that you have a diesel I can pass along how we save money through TSD Logistics. Go to their website and sign up for their fuel savings card. You must fuel up out back at places like TA which has the best discount right now and sometimes you get a hard time from truckers but well worth savings you get on fuel. You use the card you get from TSD right at the pump and don't have to go inside. I was skeptical at first but it really works.

You should give an update on the cassette toilet in a few months and let us know if you've had any hiccups. We had one last year with a pop up camper and had 2 user errors, 1st after dumping I slid the cassette too rough and quick back into its spot and snagged the water line that created a slow drip from where the clamp attaches. That drip leaked into the camper and it took us a while to figure out why every time we hooked up to pressurized water, there was a leak near the base of the toilet. The 2nd error, was when we didn't notice the top of the cassette did not open all the way when under the toilet for a tight seal. My husband went pee pee and next time I opened the cassette compartment, noticed yellow liquid all around the cassette and underneath. Cleaned it all up easily with paper towels since we only go number 1 in our RV (yes we are one of those people :o) Good luck and can't wait to see your next adventures guys!

You freaked me out at the beginning when you said "What were we thinking?" 😱 I had a diesel Volkswagen and, yes, price per gallon at the pump was greater, but my mileage was quite a bit better, so diesel was actually much cheaper than gas... I was getting about 32mpg vs. only 22 with a previous gas engine. That's only a 10 mile difference but equates to 1.45 times the distance traveled... quite a bit of a jump! Of course, you've gone to a 4-wheel drive, so you may not see such a savings, but seeing where y'all travel to, the 4-wheel drive is a better choice anyway. Maintenance is a lot more on Mercedes, true, but you also pointed out you don't go in as much, which is something I hadn't considered... Thanks for that info! Oh and that cassette toilet!
