ground cherries are amazing! We keep them in husk until December, by then we have cleared them out..

I loved this. I would have loved this life style in my early marriage years. My child hood was like what you are doing now but I didn't do it when I married. I worked away from home and it just felt overwhelming. If I could do it again I definitely would do it. Ty

Interesting video with helpful hints. Yes to perennials for less work in the long run. I like that you talk about what you liked and what you will change in the future, Thanks.

I use an AeroHydro - so incredibly effective! Herbs and tomatoes in winter! Three sisters Indian method very nice! Also super wood mulch (plus a base fertilizer-a must)saves against water, insects, adds so much. Consider a Jos. Jenkins (very successful) Design Compost using toilet. Chik trac! Cow! I’m veggie so no expense for meat feeding here. Freezer is aa asset or ground cellars! Man Nice Stove! Bravo!!

I enjoy Carol Deppe's books but haven't gardened in years. Got tuckered out listening to the two of you and all you did growing your own food/meat for your family. Good job. TOOM (Tuckered out old man).

Haha, I enjoyed reading your comment 😊. We feel pretty tuckered out most days too but I’m glad there’s a cycle of all the food we grow giving us the energy to carry on. Thanks for watching!

Do you guys use grow lights to start seeds? Or do you only start direct sow?
@FromScratchFarmstead

We don’t use grow lights. What we typically do is a mixture of direct seeding some things like carrots, beets, basil, lettuce, things like that. Then we do a couple seed trays where we just use a south facing window to start seeds in using sunlight. I’ll admit that some years our seedlings turn out better than others, but we’ve always been able to transplant a good amount of tomatoes, peppers, kale, cabbage, broccoli, brussel sprouts, etc. just from natural sunlight. Our philosophy with most anything is to try the most simple and low cost approach and so far starting seeds in our window has worked out alright 👍
