This was so good! I actually didn't have all of the ingredients and I was making a larger amount. I ended up having to make a substitute for the sauce which was a mix of brown sugar and lime juice. I also had them add more portions of the other spices to overcompensate for them ones I didn't have. Otherwise you would have thought This dish came straight from the restaurant. ;) thank you for the recipe!!

I fried the tilapia fillets too so that they don't disintegrate in the gravy. In addition, i swopped the fenugreed powder with dried fenugreek leaves or kasthuri methi instead since we already have fenugreek seeds in the gravy. Kasthuri methi gives the dish another level of aroma. Lastly, if swopping the fresh tomatoes with tomato paste, the tamarind paste can be omitted as the tomato paste already have enough sour element in it.

I prefer the fish curry texture to be smooth and creamy so I would prefer to use onion, ginger, garlic and tomatoes paste.

I really like your videos, very good work! I have one question for you, do you know how to make the fish soups that are cooked throughout north Africa? Also, do you where I can buy the garri...that's the dough like food that the Africans will take a piece and dip it in the fish soup and eat. I ate plenty of the soups and the garri when I was in Lagos, Nigeria...and I really love it. I just don't know where to get the garri. Thank you so much! Don and Kim Miller

I followed the instructions except that I used Hunt’s tomato sauce instead of fresh tomatoes but my gravy turned out black not the reddish-brown you got. Not sure where I went wrong.

Thanks for the recipe. Looks yummy and traditional. Since fillets are boneless and soft if we fry the fillets(half cooked) it helps to maintain the texture to the fish.
