I actually add food to my QT tank about once a week, because over time the bacteria will die off and cause a new cycle. If you don't use your QT tank regularly, you're actually better off keeping the sponge filter in the sump or refuge, or even the filter, and pull it over when you do use it...unless you plan to feed the empty tank on occasion.

Certain wrasses actually sleep in sand. Sand is not normally put in quarantine tanks for obvious reasons. Can these fish be "happy" without sand? Haven't come across any information on if they NEED a sand base. If so would you recommend a "bowl" with sand or something similar so you do not need to have a sand bed?

Too bad in evo series you added fish right from the store after tank cycled.

Gonna be a good series ! Just add the bacteria in a bottle without rock or ceramic media or a filter pad or anything ? Just pvc ? Carbon in a filter pad isn't a problemo ?

A filter pad with bacteria in a bottle product won't hurt. I leave the ceramic media out due to sterilization issues. Carbon is ok if you aren't medicating the tank

Did you treat your display tank after the velvet? I just lost a fish to what I’m pretty sure was velvet. I had a Dino outbreak two weeks ago, could that be what caused the velvet since it is also a Dino? Now what do I do with my display, the rest of the fish seem fine so far🤞🏻. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I have some questions about the ongoing cycling process of quarantine tank. Since you don't always have fish in your quarantine, I would assume that the nitrifying bacteria will eventually all die out? How long do you need to cycle the quarantine tank before adding the fish? Also, how long will the tank remain cycled after you remove the fish so that you can keep using it for another fish later on?
@TattooedDancer91

You could just empty the tank and keep extra filtration media in the display tank so you can setup a cycled tank in an hour.

Easiest method is to use sponge filters in QT. Always keep a new sponge in your DT or sump so that it'll be ready for the next time. After you're done with quarantine, throw away old sponge. DO NOT put old sponge back in sump!

Hello I have a question about QT. What I wanted to know is can I quarantine fish and corals in the same tank simultaneously?? I plan to use Polyplab Primer for corals to dip before QT and Safety Stop bath for the fish before QT the fish. And then aging dip the coral and use safety stop bath for the fish before adding them to the main display tank. Can you help me please.
@YohanM99

You shouldn't qt both ib the same tank. The reason is the if a fish were to have a disease or parasite the treat can kill the coral. Like copper treatment or hyposalinity. Also corals qt most of the time has you closely observing your tank and sometime removing corals to redip them if the are coral parasites like flatwarms. Because you are always closely observing the coral and reaching in the tank that will stress your new fish out. Its easier to have two tanks to achive the two diffrent qts. I hope that help

@@mrsaltwatertank I've been told everything from a week to four months. What situations would you QT for longer, if any?
@YohanM99
5 жыл бұрын
@@lukemilne6922 the reson the mr saltwater tank said you should qt for a minimum of 30 days is due to the life cycle of some fish parasite. For example ich. It gose through three main stages. Feeding on the fish, dropping off the fish to repopulate in the sand bed or live rock in a "protective cocoon" and finally the free swimming stage where it looks for a new fish or the same fish to attach to. The free swimming stage is the easiest time to kill the parasite. This cycle can change. how fast it happen is due to things like temperature. Notice he mentioned the heater. The colder things are the slower the metabolism and the slower it reproduces. So in a cold tank the parasites could take up to 6 weeks to fully go throw it life cycle. He will probably explain it in the next vidoe about the qt. I hope i was helpful.

It’s kind of a big commitment. You gotta have a whole Nother fish tank to take care of. I mean it’s a great excuse to tell your wife, but it is a whole Nother tank. You have to take care of your your story. Sounds terrifying. That’s every keepers nightmare you get a fish that you really like it. It gives everybody an STD and kills him.

I still use PVC. Rock isn't as easily sterilized as PVC pieces and rock gives more places for diseases to attach
