I’m SO sorry about all the fallout you’re facing from the fire. It sucks. I also totally respect your dedication and work ethic, never missing a Monday. Looking forward to watching as you set up new tanks. Also, tanks on the kitchen counter: so handy when you’re serving blanched veggies to your bottom feeders!

fun fact i bought like a pair of kuhli loaches a few years around 2019 and then never saw them again i did a reset on the tank on 2022 and i completly changed the substrate i tried looking for them but never found them so i thought they died and moved on but when i changed the substrate i put around a gallon of water on top of the subtrate in a bucket i never threw the substrate away as i thought i could use it for a future scape and then around a day back i waas going to use the substrate for another scape and then look who out of the one gallon water put on it 5 kuhli loaches those spageti noodles breed in that bucket a lived in it for 2 whole years 2YEARS i didnt even feed them dont worry checked the bucket if there were more a guess what there where 7 more of em so there were like 12 kuhli loaches in that bucket and thank god i put that small amount of water with the substrate and that i didnt throw the substrate straight out the window like how i was originally planning on doing either way all of the loaches are now happily living in my 45 gallon betta comunity tank(female betta fish for dumb ass thinking of puting 2 or more male betta fish in the same tank)

I woke up early today to go to uni, I checked my timetable and it turns out I have no lectures, so I got to go back to bed! I'm so happy but I also have a cold so I'm glad :) Also I had a lecture last week taught by a guy who researches the exotic fish trade in the Amazon, he showed us pictures of cardinal tetras in their natural habitat and the methods used to trap them. There's whole villages that are supported by the trade and he met fishermen that have been catching these fish for decades. It was so cool and it made me want to get some cardinal tetras and make a really realistic set-up that looks like that forest (they live in a flooded forest area).

What about the impact of wild caught fish for the fish trade on their local ecosystem though?
@mhenderson7673

@@BonelessPizzaSlice Apparently they haven't noticed a decease in the fish population, but that exact question is one the researchers are interested in studying.
@TheRealTMar
2 күн бұрын
@@BonelessPizzaSlice Cardinal tetras and many fish species in the Amazon have a boom and bust cycle due to the yearly flood and drought cycle in the Amazon basin. The local fisher people catch the aquarium fish in a gentle way and protect the rain forest from logging and destructive farming along the way. Cardinal tetras are the main species shipped from the Rio Negro in Brazil to all over the world. So supporting these fisheries by buying wild caught aquarium fish, is a good thing for the environment and in the case of these cardinals, the populations aren't affected by the fishing at all. They're always back in millions and millions the next year. Buying wild caught cardinals is also a good thing because these fish can live for several years, some are known to live past 10 years even. In the wild, because of the dry seasons, most cardinals won't live past one year. You could check out Project Piaba, they're on KZitem as well and upload short videos about the under water Amazon habitats every Friday.

I spent many years with aquariums and found a lot of the stuff covered here via trial and error. No KZitem "back in the day". I'm not so much in the hobby now but love watching the your videos so much! I have a single specimen coral in a modern 3 gallon bare bottom aquarium. People usually think it's fake until they see parts randomly close. So much easier to keep an "under stocked" aquarium...my number one advice to everyone.

Taking this moment to broadcast that ghost shrimp are friends, not food. If you enjoy dwarf shrimp, i am begging you to give these guys a try. You need to seek out a healthy line which you usually won't find in the feeder section at petco, but if you can find a colony that isn't genetically cooked, they thrive in the same conditions as neos, but have a very fascinating different set of behaviors, and are adorably goofy looking. They have a much more benthic habit, and are kinda clumsy swimmers. But first, make sure you learn the difference between ghost and whisker shrimp. Whisker shrimp are the piranhas of the invert world. About twice the size, even longer arms, and will shred smaller shrimp in seconds. If someone tells you their ghost shrimp killed other animals, they were sold whisker shrimp under false pretenses.

I have a ten gallon right now (stocked with 7 black/white teras) but i have a problem with algae. It's not bad though, i just need a fish/animal that will live more than two years and it has to be VERY hardy. IF you have any suggestions, please tell me 😭. I'm so deeply sorry about the fire. I hope the remodeling goes well!

My favorite thing in my aquarium is the fish. The plants are there to make them look better.

QOTW, my favorite thing in my tank must be my army of blue diamond neocaridinas.
