They were on their way up, but the lead guitarist ended up joining a cult and quitting the band, Norwood Fisher (bass), and Angelo Moore (vocals, trumpet) drove up from LA, to Marin in NorCal to deprogram him. They were arrested for kidnapping... Put a damper on their career.

Eight years ago, the lead singer, sax and trombone player Angelo Moore (AKA Dr. Madd Vibe), was a housemate of mine. Really kind soul with an incredible energy. Love that guy. Loved that house. It was an incredible year of my life living with members of Fishbone, GWAR, Green Jello and Radiactive Chicken Heads. There's some bands you should react to! Fight the Youth is a fucking jam. They closed an outdoor show in Hawaii in 1993 I was at with Sunless Saturday and it was to this day one the highest energy performances I’ve ever seen any band play with and I’ve seen a lot. That crazy acoustic outro is burned in my mind, the backdrop of the show was like a 15-20 foot hurricane swell breaking way outside Chinamans Hat (look it up) island in Kaneohe Bay. Unreal

For more Fishbone, as many people have already suggested but I will suggest again, Everyday Sunshine and Party at Ground Zero should be your next visits on the Fishbone music tour. One of my favorite bands and one of the best concerts I've ever been to. My friends and I had to get fake ID's to see them because we were under 21 and they were playing 21-and-up show back when I was in high school I think it was (might've been a freshmen in college, I don't remember that far back :P ). None of us drank, btw, we just wanted to get in to see Fishbone. ^_^

The key to the song is the children in the video. Kids in crime-ridden neighborhoods are forced to stay in their homes because the parents fear harm will fall on them. Kids are meant to play, run around, have fun. Sadly some places forces the children to endure sunless Saturdays, sunless everydays.

"Sunless Saturday" is the companion song to the "Sly and the Family Stone" style banger "Everyday Sunshine" (or vice versa). 90's Fishbone is far less frenetic and far more polished than 80's Fishbone -- a mosh pit of confections that defied expectations with songs like "Ugly," "? (Modern Industry)," "Party at Ground Zero," "Lyin' Ass Bitch" and others.
@whitenoise546

A child of the 70s/80s, I like the frenetic and less polished version of the band. To me, when bands try to go slower, go "another direction" (as many say), or even mix in a different Jandra, it most times fails (too many rock and metal bands to name here). All these bands go away from the roots, then they suck and lose their identity. JMHO

You have no idea how happy this made me to see. This song is what absolutely got me into Fishbone last year and it's really the tip of the iceberg because they just hit so many different types of music. They've instantly hit my bucket list of bands to see live before I die because they're still going and they still put on a hell of a show (the OG lineup just reunited in the last couple of years and started touring again). If you dig them, I would love to see you react to more of their stuff. Also check out the documentary on them when you get a chance. Really fascinating and raw look at the band and their history.

I think Fishbone could have had pretty much the same fame and fortune, but I guess RHCP was just easier to market somehow. Putting that aside, however, both bands were not only contemporaries on the scene, but also allies, very supportive of each other, rather than having any hostile rivalry. Regardless of who reaches the riches, that's the sort of camaraderie that can make the music scene of an era truly great and memorable. Fishbone have been out there giving it their all for a long time, and through some really rough times, too. Fishbone can be very off-the-wall, too. They'll have one song about a very important, deep social/political issue, and then the next song might be about doing crazy stuff like getting it on in a cemetery. They won't leave you bored. :D
