PLEASE read this because video was not done intentionally from start to finish. So the video is showing what I did that helped me find a piece of bone and plastic stuck in drain pipe hole where the dishwasher drain hose connects. Inadvertently I also determined my pump was in fact working.
Don’t call the repairman or take apart your dishwasher just yet! How to test your dishwasher’s pump if water is not draining from drawer.
Step one: Unclamp dishwasher drain hose from kitchen drain pipe.
Step two: Place hoses in a large pot
Step three: If you have a Fisher and Paykel dishdrawer, you will start a cycle, it will drain some water before the wash starts. After a few minutes when you know water is in the drawer( go ahead and pause cycle to check if you want but then resume the cycle) push the off button. The machine will start draining the drawers in two short cycles. Obviously if water comes out, your pump is good!
Now I did this a few times on both drawers to clean out lines. When I figured out it was all working, I added baking soda and vinegar to the drawers and let it wash for 5 minutes and drained again. Trust me that junk came out.
Now the next discovery was where I found the clog.
This whole process took about 1 hour for me to do. I’m not a plumber. It was not hard. A screwdriver, a pot and a towel were my only tools.
I did buy that thread repair blue goop stuff because the guy at Homedepot told me it was awesome. I’m not sure I really needed it but you won’t need it to test the pump or clear a clog.
