Love your report and surprised. Fishing cod on the shore is quite satisfying for the fishermen. The cod population in your area looks healthy and likely growing. Best wishes to Newfoundlanders.

Cod tend to gather new shore when the caplin are in.. so it's hard to say how big the stock actually is, but it does make for great fishing for a few weeks .. I will be uploading and evening fishing from a different location .. make sure notifications are on . thanks for watching.

I don't think we have Caiplin here in Maine, but they do look very similar to the smelts we have still in some places. 🐟 we are allowed 1 cod 22 inches long per day for the month of October. My friend caught one weighed 9 pounds last week with that being the largest I have seen caught w rod and reel. Happy fishing 🎣

We have smelt in some places here as well It's usually late winter early spring when they are around . Man people here think the rules for cod fishing are strict, Seems not compared to 1 per day 22inches 😮

Hey there. Welcome to St.John’s.. Summer is the only time you can fiah for most species of fish in the ocean. due to seasons set by government.. The winter trout fishery opens this Wednesday. Feb 1st . you can fish for trout anywhere till April 15 using bait or flys. The winter brown trout fishery is popular in the coastal areas .. but they are tough to catch .. There's a great company here called" ecghilles " they are on instragram . they are awesome . take people out and show they the ropes ... they also have gear you can use . I actually spent a few hours with them ladt spring gettig a casting lesson.. If you have any questions, my email is erbland2@gmail.com cheers steve

You can catch them from certain places on the shore outside of caplin season, however the cod fishery is heavily regulated (even if enforcement is not) the season is approximately Friday-monday during July and August

What type of rod , reel and lure do you use for catch the cod?
@angling_arrows
2 жыл бұрын
It spinning reel similar to what you would use for trout .. just much bigger and rod is heavy duty and longer to aid with longer casts. the hooks can be just about anything for cod. they aren't fussy. you can use store bought 2 ounce lead fiah shaped hooks. or make you're own . I use a butter knife or big nail .. drill amd attached a hook . number 7 works .. cheaper than buying them amd you loose lots in the sea weed
