I use the regular clinch knot because the improved clinch knot holds 95% of the line strength but only up to 30 lb test. because after 30 lb test it becomes abrasive due to the thicker diameter and the extra step at the end where you put it through the second loop which basically weakens the thicker line diameter. whereas the regular clinch knot still holds 90% of the line strength but doesn't have the abrasive aspects of the improved clinch knot on lines over 30 lb test because you're not cinching down the tag end through 2 loops.

It's interesting that with 6 wraps you get 11 intersections of the line, so it appears like a lot more wraps than it is. I guess you get double the amount minus 1.

As an older fisherman, this is the only knot I use; with my eyesight fading a bit, it's the easiest knot to tie if I need to re-tie while fishing.

For my fly fisherman out there trying to throw this on a size 20 with 6x, grab the tag end with your teeth and use your hands to pull the bug & main line. Keeps the hook from getting buried in your hand 📝

Can’t you wrap the line twice through the hook eye before starting to twist to increase the knot strength? this way the tension on the line will be reduced half just like double Palomar knot.

What is the reason extra twists are used on a light line? Are lighter lines more likely to slip?
@FTWQ
3 жыл бұрын
Great question. Actually, it's more about the heaver line. Sometimes the heavier lines are much harder to tie, due to their larger size. So I guess when I say, "lighter lines", I'm more-so speaking of more common line sizes. I hope helps!

@FTWQ

Honestly, I prefer the improved clinch knot for smaller diameter lines. It's just easier to tie, and is a strong knot. Just make sure to give the knot a tug to make sure it strong before tossing in the water.
