Although this probably ruined the day for that family, it was their responsibility to know the rules. I know there are going to be guys on here bashing them for fishing out of season, snag setup, no license, taking zombie salmon to eat, etc... Heck even I was careless and didn't even know about the regulations when I first started fishing. Luckily the local where I was at told me about it before I made my cast and educated me. Few improvements I think that will help newbies is for fishing license to require a written exam instead of just pay to get. Doesn't have to be hard. Make it open book test so that people actually have to read and understand the regulation book. One thing that deserves no sympathy is the woman telling the lie that she wasn't fishing because she knew she would be in trouble as well since she had no license. (Although not in the video, I will have to take the mnr's word for it).

Agree, it can be very frustrating navigating through the regulations, wish they invested money in an app that can pinpoint their fishing location and tell the regulations for species and it's legalities.

This should be happening more and more! To many people from out of town come to fish the Ganaraska out of season. These people claimed ignorance. When you receive a license to fish, you receive a booklet outlining the rules and regulations for fishing in Ontario. Their equipment was confiscated. They are lucky their vehicle wasn't as well. Fishing without a license is a chargeable offense as well.

yeah totally agree. If they went a little more south of the river (past the train tracks) they would've been fine because of the zone exceptions. It's open all year according to the regulations. Sadly, I have not once seen an MNR while I was there and I could see so many people keeping fish more than the limit.

There should be an educational course for people like these to understand that there are responsibilities that comes with getting a fishing license. Know the rules and fish species before going out. Too many instances like this go on without reporting. People need to report more of this to protect our fisheries.

Hi! I'd like to clarify some things in zone 17 fisheries management zone 17 2022. It says on the website that Pacific Salmon season is Fourth Saturday in April so Sept 30. But in Species Exceptions section it says open all year. And says Limits: zone-wide limits apply and specified creeks and rivers were listed. Does that mean that I can only fish on those listed locations past sept 30 for pacific salmon? Thanks in advance for reply. I'm a little bit confused on that one.
