Whenever you are using the aerator make sure to stick quite a bit of ice in there to keep the water cool for longer or a bottle of salt/ice slurry that stays colder longer
@billycurtis5788

Awesome tip! I might have to use that! 👍🏾
@wickedmikes5281

I’ve never tried a salt/ice slurry, but you definitely want to keep shiners aerated and cool. The peacock bass bite is best in the summer in South Florida. Leave a bucket of live shiners out in the sun, and you might as well put them in a microwave. I’m curious what type of salt you use and what your ratios are, more or less. I’m thinking aquarium salt is inexpensive, easy to find, and is actually meant for fish.

You need to do a catch and cook when you catch a sizable fish/ no more of those two bite grommets. Unless you really don't like eating fish I mean what's up

When you use barbed hooks try to set them slowly so that the mouthing skin doesn't tear with the expansion as it reaches the wider part of the barb.

The round white styrofoam bait buckets fit inside a 5 gallon bucket perfectly and insulate it while The bucket keeps the Sun directly off the Styrofoam and for those days that are really hot and steamy grab you an ice pack out of the freezer and throw in there with those little suckers and it will Make a huge difference in how long they stay alive. Also that 5 gallon bucket with the Styrofoam inside makes that bait cooler go from one day use to 3 years cuz you can't crush it with anything

2 things right off, loosen your breaks when casting something lighter. It will cast farther. Also, if you hook the shiners from right to left under the spine, towards the back of the dorsal fin, they can swim naturally and it makes for a better eat.

This is why living in South Florida gets you spoiled. A random canal or pond will yield above average fish. Not to mention the main lakes with exotics like clownknifes, peacocks and largies. Saltwater is even better. Inshore offshore trolling and deep sea fishing.

I'm guilty of "setting" circle hooks just the same. If it's clear water especially bed fishing get some 2/0 or 1/0 octopus hooks with a little offset so when the excitement and adrenaline/Instinct Kick in and you start YOINKing the P's the hook point sets in the fish. Circle hooks when you "set" the rod down
