So much love for Fist 2. Mostly, like you say, due to the nostalgia gained from the mesmerising music - but also, as it had a fair bit of depth with the scrolls and the adventuring aspect. Brilliant 😇🕹👌

This really shows the sheer quantity of great c64 games: I absolutely adored this game, but at the same time had totally forgotten it. Completely gone from my memory. I fully agree with other reviewers labelling this as atmospheric. It builds the tension because of the breaks between the fights and the thoughful backdrops and music. So much goes into these incredible works of art. Thanks for the upload!

I loaded this up once when I had some friends over in college, and when it loaded and the music suddenly came on it caught them totally off guard. "HOLY SH**!" "Whoa that sounds awesome!" And I might've had it cranked too. Fantastic game! The controls take a little getting used to, but it's a real adventure roaming the lands battling it out with considerable opponents. All to the tune of those awesome old kung-fu movie sound effects AND MUSIC!

Always considered this an underrated unerappreciated game back in it's day. It was atmospheric, challenging and fun. One of the best games ever released on the C64 without a doubt. You forgot to mention however that the game actually was 2 games. On the B-side of the cassette was another game, just like the original, but with updated graphics and gameplay.

You're absolutely right and definitely dont require a head examination hehe - I've been re-doing all of my original old crappy videos as I'd like them to stand the test of time and some games definitely require a re-visit and a proper video - anything posted 2022 will probably also be receiving this polishing, but bare with me... there are a load of 'new' ones planned this year too as well 😇🕹️👌

I should give this and Barbarian 2 another chance. I bought both on the C64 back in the day but didn't get anywhere with either of them. Not even sure why, as I liked other games that required that kind of exploration, but maybe the combat was too hard for me as a kid when it wasn't in a more simple 1vs1 format? Or the change in genre just confused my mind. One day I might actually play Last Ninja 3 as well, although every time I try that it's just brutal unless you already know where to go and what to do, which just sucks as a new player. Still seems like a huge step backwards from LN1 and 2, which were masterpieces for the time.
@CheekyCommodoreGamer

LN1 & 2 100 bonifide masterpieces, I agree with you on that one. As for Fist II, the haunting music is extremely memorable as was the yearning for exploration... felt like such a massive game back in the mid-80s. Great to get this one fired up every now and then for a quick play 😇🕹️👌

Probably should have skipped the scrolling, but otherwise awesome game. I found the fighting tough to master. Was usually facing away from my opponent. Also, not having the manual made any thought of beating it impossible.

Good review Cheeky! I too loved this game back in the day, because it felt like such an epic journey into the exotic and unknown, the fabulous music being the cherry on top. In hindsight it was unfortunately bugged (there are fixed versions available now though), meaning you might well get stuck, rather obscure with its puzzles and way too long to complete in one sitting. It could easily be improved by having the sanctuaries as continue/save points and would have benefited even more if you could teleport between them, and of course if you had an in-game map. But it was early days yet (the original Metroid and Castlevania are from the same year) so I forgive its flaws. As a bonus, one of my friends at the time had almost the exact green cap some of the fighters wear in the game and my history teacher looked a bit like the bloke you fight in the water. 🤣Good call about the backwards kick! None of the enemies see that one coming apparently!🤕

Yeah mine had the waterfall jump bug, thankfully I managed to get a different copy and it worked perfectly. I remember finding the pit in the game, with the toxic 'smoke' and thought it was another bug in the game! It was a friend who told me 'No... you need to find a scroll that allows you to walk through it' - Ahhhh eureka moment. Great memories 😇🕹️👌
@OperationPhantom

@@CheekyCommodoreGamer Yes, the waterfall bug was infamous! Was awesome when you found a way to progress but sometimes you were simply stuck. Like the bit where you have to punch through a pile of rocks or something? 🤜Only with the right scroll buddy. Silly as it seems now, some kids at my school even made up stuff they "discovered" later on in the game, just to boast! Like... ninjas on bicycles! 😂 Blame it on schoolboy imagination and the 80s ninja obsession I guess... Good memories indeed.

I had a pirated copy of this, but no instructions for it. So I wandered around collecting whatever scrolls I could reach, but not knowing what else to do. I liked it, but didn't get very far in it. Barbarian 2 I didn't like at all. I thought the fighting was too fiddly. If you swing too early or too late, you miss the enemy and get hit. Also, even with the compass, I got disoriented very quickly.
@CheekyCommodoreGamer
Жыл бұрын
Yeah I had 2 copies of this originally and the first one we got was on a Turbo Load cassette so we didn't know how to get past the poison room. I think I remember my brother telling me the game sucked as he thought it was a bug. But, when we bought the game a week or so later and read the manual, it was clear that we needed a scroll to proceed - then we absolutely loved the game 😇🕹️👌
@lurkerrekrul
Жыл бұрын
@@CheekyCommodoreGamer I don't remember if I ever saw the poisoned room. For me, it was a scroll on the other side of a gap. You came on the screen from the left, there was a gap and a scroll on the right side. I'd try jumping for it, miss and fall down the gap. Then I'd go through all the screens to get back to that same screen and try again. Fail again, go all the way around, try again, etc. After repeatedly failing to grab the scroll, I'd quit the game.

Ok, time for a big disagreement here. This slow, ponderous trudge is amongst the most disappointing sequels in history. The fighting is worse than the original and the graphics are uninspiring but, the biggest problem is that it is just so slow and tedious to play. I'd saved up to buy this on release but, and this was not something you think about when you're a kid, there were no reviews in any of the Mags before it came out. I played it and found out why. Now, after saying that, I'm going to have to go play it again to see if Kid me was right to consign it to the back of the collection. EDIT: Yep, still a horrible, slow slog of a game. I'll add iffy collision detection to the charges as well.
@CheekyCommodoreGamer
Жыл бұрын
Yeah I see where you are coming from with the responsiveness - the slow movement and the foreboding music added to the atmosphere of the games approach. Games are very subjective though and I was easily pleased back then hehe. Nostalgia can certainly be seen through rose tinted spectacles sometimes 😇🕹👌

@@CheekyCommodoreGamer There were certainly better examples on the system. Barbarian 2 plays much better and the samurai rabbit game was good as well. For me, Fist joined Wizardry and William Wobbler in the hyped but binned pile.
