Fitbit actually advises wearing their products higher up on your wrist for more accurate readings. I’ve also done several other tests wearing them lower on the wrist and with no other device on the same wrist, it’s always the same result (dropping when it gets to my peak heart rate zone). The only time it can handle being in my peak heart rate zone is during indoor spinning when I’m at a constantly high heart rate and not doing any intervals.

Fitbit reccomends wearing your watch two fingers away from your wrist for an accurate heartbeat reading, whereas with your test both Fitbit watches where way too far from the reccomended placement. Maybe the reason for the innacurate reading? Just a thought. Great video though.
@wearablewhisperer

You might find this video interesting (where I test different wrist placements): kzitem.info/news/bejne/1Z17vK2Lbmp_mII I have tested in multiple placements over multiple years, and I personally have never gotten reliably accurate heart rate at high intensities when walking or hiking with any Fitbit. I can get reliably accurate peak heart rate when indoor spinning with most recent Fitbits (no matter what the placement on my wrist is...). I used to be a Fitbit employee, so I am very aware of the placement recommendation. Just FYI, I always personally do several tests in different placements and locations before I even give any accuracy statements (unlike some other "reviews" that have only had the device for a day or two). In a "to the point" video like this one, I just can't include every test that led me to my conclusion. I'm glad you liked the video 😊

For the bpm test, you had the garmin and apple at the right spot where the watch is supposed to be worn ie 1-2 fingers below wrist bone but both the fitbits you have worn way below the recommendation. Really informative video. Thank you. To tell you the truth, I'd go for an Apple watch in a heartbeat if I would be willing to switch from my Samsung Galaxy to iPhone but no way. I'm looking on Amazon and the Versa 3 is only $20 less than the Sense. Also, I don't know if the deficiencies mentioned are hardware or software issues. During my career in IT, I had to make that determination countless times, but I shouldn't have to be put in that position for a $300 (on sale for $199) watch. If it's not hardware based, then a firmware and/or software update might make these issues get better or even go away. I would love to know what Fitbit knows about these issues. It may well be the hardware is causing these inaccuracies in which case they will never be fixed. If Fitbit manufactured these using cheap sensors to improve their margins, then you're stuck with these issues for the duration of your ownership. Who wants to throw the dice for $199/$300?
@wearablewhisperer
2 жыл бұрын
You’re welcome. I can almost guarantee that Fitbit will not correct any of these issues with firmware updates. Their (and most other company’s) M.O. is to provide updates in the form of next years iteration (though Fitbit hasn’t seemed to yet crack the code on accurate heart rate for me at least; Apple and Garmin have both improved significantly in the last few years). If it helps to know, I do have a Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 ordered and I’ll try to at least compare its heart rate accuracy and ease of use/features to the Apple Watch and maybe Fitbit and publish some videos ideally before Christmas. I don’t have a Samsung phone though and I’ll have to use my seldom-used Android phone I bought for these purposes (since the galaxy watch 4 doesn’t work with iPhones). Good luck in your search!

It seems odd to me that fitbit withholds your 30 day historic spO2 data unless you subscribe to premium. What happened to freedom of information? It's your personal data that they only have because you chose to purchase their device. Maybe premium should be reserved for premium features. Not for unlocking historical data for a feature already in use?

Fun fact if you have a pixel and have the latest software update in the google fit app you can use you finger placed over the camera in a well lit area to get a heart rate that is as accurate as an apple watch series 6 or even a medical grade heart rate tracker. This test has been done by 'In depth tech reviews' if you want to check it out.

This method of taking an “on-demand” heart rate via your phones camera has been around before smartwatches got popular. It is a great option for on-demand use, but most people who use their watches to track their workouts want a continuous measurement, so the phone camera option isn’t the same category for comparison.

@@wearablewhisperer I know it's just a fact in case you didn't know just trying to be helpful. It's a here and there in kinda thing and I know it's been there for a while just if you didn't know just wanted to make sure you did. You may not see the need to buy one if you know that. Just testing it every now and then might be better for some people

@@wearablewhisperer I have the TicWatch Pro 3 I have mixed feelings about it. Its pretty good overall! But I wish the smarts of this watch were in something like the Fitbit sense that would be amazing. For now I thinks it the closest thing I can get to a pixel watch lol do you have a Fitbit sense I would love to know how you like it!?

I have the Fitbit Sense and I primarily wear it for sleep tracking. The heart rate isn’t accurate for me for the workouts I do most often, and that also affects the accuracy of other metrics like active zone minutes. I also don’t personally find the stress management score or EDA Scan app to correlate with my stress levels, so they are not useful features for me. I do love the battery life and quick charging, but I prefer an Apple Watch for my use cases (except for sleep tracking).

For most people, the Versa 3 is a better choice (and better value). I personally love the stainless steel look, and since I own both, I wear the Sense. But my partner wears the Versa 3 and likes it.

What about oxygen saturation/SpO2 readings? My instructions say I need to download a separate app from their “Gallory” for my Fitbit Sense. Where might the Gallery be? Is it just an app I can get from my iPhone apps?
@wearablewhisperer

It’s in the Fitbit App. Start from your main dashboard (the one that shows your steps, sleep, etc). Click on the icon in the upper left corner. That should bring you to your account page. Find Sense in your list of devices and tap on it. Then you should see “Apps” on the next page. Tap on that. You can then tap on “All Apps” and search for any app

Best is subjective. The Sense has a few more features, but the Versa 3 is better value for your money if you don’t need or care about those few extra features. For most people, Versa 3 is good enough, but I do personally love the stainless steel around the Sense’s display.

Great video.. how useful is the ECG. Do fitbit explain how to read the charts. Every video I have watched only shows a chart, and I have no idea what info I can get out of it.
@wearablewhisperer

The ECG app can only tell you if your heart rhythm shows signs of Afib. The chart is more for sharing with your doctor (if you do show signs of afib).

What kind of exercise do you do? I can get much more accurate high heart rate if I’m spinning (indoors) at a constant speed, but hill climbs while walking or hiking, or intervals while spinning, the Fitbit can’t keep up.

@@wearablewhisperer when I was using the Fitbit in conjunction with an HR strap I was doing Running, Rowing, and Lifting (All Indoor) I didn’t have much variation as I was pretty out of shape so during the workout I would have a Heart rate range of plus or minus 20 BPM between high and low over an hour.
