Been interested in theses for a while, could do a bit of modifying to the van sturdy tho. My idea is, remove the grub screw, get a think pen or something to mark through the grub screw when the thing is on the van, remove the socket then drill a small indent in to the van sturdy, replace the grub screw, maybe a tad longer and maybe stainless, now when you do it up it wil be a lot harder for a person to smack it off under the van using a chisel on the end and wacking it outwards as the grub screw wont be able to just slide along the sturdy....... Still think they good as the more locks the more i think a thief will move on to the next van

Hi, thanks for watching and commenting. I like your thinking. Being an engineer, I can see the benefit in doing this modification. I wonder if it would mive the week point to the lock and if that could be forced off. If I get the chance, I'll will give it a go. If you do get to do the mod, you will have to let me know how you get on. Happy Camping. James

Really good video, only one I have found on this subject that really explains how they are fitted. My only problem is that it has put me off spending decent money on these. If all that is keeping the steady from being used is a little grub screw I won't waste my money although I understand its a deterrent especially with the rest of the security you throw on the 'van. Thanks for a clear video tho.

Hello CJW, thanks for watching and I am glad you found it useful. I paid about £25 each for these. The Grub Screw is covered over with the Yellow Lock Body when fitted to you would need to overcome the lock before getting to the grub screw and if you overcame that you would not need to worry about the grub screw as you could operate the steady anyway. I agree that if they are determined they will overcome this. For me its about putting as much in there way as possible. I have these fitted to the Steadies, 4 Wheel Locks Heavy Duty Hitch Lock, Extra Door Lock, Tracker and Alarm., Some may think a bit extreme but it gives us some piece of mind. Thanks again and happy Camping. James

With the lock protruding so far out, isn't it a hazard to pedestrians in the event of a collision? I use a Stronghold leg lock. It doesn't stick out beyond the side of the caravan. I don't know if it's any less/more secure than the one you have.

Hi Thanks for commenting, It does protrude but only on the front steadies, but has never been a problem, I always fit on the none awning side when we have an awning fitted as to not interfere with the draught skirt. I don't have them fitted when towing so wont be an issue with pedestrians in the event of a collision I don't know if it is any better than the stronghold that you have fitted, but with these 4 wheels locks and a premium hitch lock, I just hope it makes them think twice and at least slow them down. Thanks for watching and happy camping. James

What stops anyone from taking a welding wrench or pipe wrench and turn the screw from under the caravan?

Hello Leif, thanks for commenting. to simply answer your question, nothing at all, its the old adage that if they want it they will take it. I see it as putting more in the way to make it difficult and slow them down, with 4 Steady Locks fitted, 4 wheels locks, premium hitch lock, additional door lock, Tracker and an Alarm they all add extra deterrent,. I either have the Caravan stored at home or in storage and would hope that with these devices along with the Home CCTV, they will think twice or be disturbed in the process and while in storage they may look at other caravans with less security. You can only do what you can. I don't find it to much hassle fitting and removing these devices. Happy Camping James

@@CaravanEscapades101 Right. I just wanted to point out that they are easily defeatable without specialized tools or much noise. If you want to buy a hitch lock, check out what Lockpicking Lawyer have to say about it first ;-) kzitem.info/rock/m9K6rby98W8JigLoZOh6FQ

I have similar on my rear steadies, I store the van nose down so van can’t easily be lifted up. They can be overcome by using mole grips on the thread, but it all takes time and used in conjunction with additional security measures might just put the thieving ba@@starts off.

@@colinrimmer789 Hi. Yes like you we have the Caravan nose in when it's at home, like all locks they can be overcome and I agree it all helps slow them down. Take Care James
