Excellent advice here. I followed it and have successfully installed MAP side pullers into my one piece Daiwa kits. Putting dowel or similar protection into the section prior to drilling is essential. I used thick garden cane and added a few wraps of tape.

I’ll shortly be buying a pole and have been looking round for how to do this. A very easy and clear explanation and some good tips on the drilling process etc. Thanks Den.

Hi Den this really is so so helpful thank you for posting. I had a few drilling trial runs on an old pole section and the 8 pullers I had didn’t actually click into place so the gluing process is a must. Brilliant video again sir thank you so much 🎣👌

No worries Dave. I'm glad the video helped. I have been using these top sections for almost a year now and nothing has moved, so hopefully, they will stay there until I replace the pole itself. 😃👍

Did my six Daiwa one piece kits yesterday. I also found glue is required, I used Araldite on some and general purpose clear glue on others. Overall very pleased. I'd also consider the Stonfo version, apparently they have a better click-in construction and Stonfo claim glue is not required. However, they are £5 each. MAPs are £5 for two.

Thanks for your comments. I use the Daiwa Yank n Bank 13 metre pole. It's very strong, but it's also quite heavy.

Hi Den I have recently converted my top kits from rear pullers to side pullers reinforced my kits drilled the holes and fitted the Map pullers most clicked into place and put a little bit of glue on each used it last week for some early season Carp but on my second fish of about 7lbs the puller popped out of its hole I have now re glued it again and hopefully it will stay in place Just wondering if you have had any problems with yours and do you recommend anything I can do to fix this if it doesn't hold again? Many thanks👍

Mine have all stayed put in their holes so far Paul. Could your holes have been slightly too large, or possibly, were they not clicked fully into place when you did them? The only other thing I can think of is that your reinforced area may be too thick for the pullers to click in properly?

@@FishingwithDen yes most of them clicked in but will give them another go today.

What size elastic were you fitting with what looks like a small bead, I'm looking to fit the side puller with size 13 Dura Slip Hybrid elastic, will I need the large bead for that size elastic.
@FishingwithDen
3 жыл бұрын
Hi John. I was fitting the Slik size 14-16 elastic which is 2mm in diameter and the bead I used was a large size. I haven't used Dura Slip, but I assume the diameter will be similar. You could also use a Stonfo type elastic connector instead, as I did in the other part of the video. That way, the diameter of the elastic will not matter. If you are still unsure, the guys at the tackle shop will tell you the answer.

how far from the bottom of the section is the side puller hole please?
@FishingwithDen

Hi Jonathan. It depends on where the reinforced area is on your specific pole. If there is no reinforced area, then you should not use a side puller bung. If you are at all unsure, then take your top kit to your local tackle shop. They will advise you whether your pole is suitable.

Useful drilling tips but you need to get on an internal bush and dacron connector m8

@@FishingwithDen True but external bushes & stonfos went out with the 1990's, internals are much kinder to your elastic and stonfos are way too cumbersome
@FishingwithDen

@@UPTHETOWN The problem with internal bushes is that they mean you have to cut the top section back much further to accommodate thick elastics Andy. As for Stonfo's, I agree that for matchmen, the Dacron Connectors are preferred, but again, the plastic connectors are still readily available and some people prefer them because they may have poor eyesight and/or arthritic joints.
@davidcooke7586

@@FishingwithDen In agree ! I much prefer external bushes as they are easier to fit, as they can be stretched slightly to fit onto a section. I still use plastic elastic connectors too. With both of these items I prefer to mute the oft used flouro colours with a black and/or metallic grey marker pen. My side puller beads are a medium green colour, I believe the ONLY flouro item in my line of sight when pole fishing should be the float tip ! The Italian company Stonfo make their own version of a curved PTFE side puller, apparently glue is NOT required and having seen their blurb, they look as if the click-in feature is more positive than MAPs. However they are about a fiver each, MAPs are two for a fiver .

You didn't explain how to build up the section in the first place. I guess it's fairly obvious but probably not to everyone.
@FishingwithDen
4 жыл бұрын
I didn't have to build up the section on my pole because it has a reinforced area as standard. I have never tried to build up a section with a carbon wrap, which is what I think you are talking about, so I would not be qualified to provide information on that. My concern would be that trying to add carbon fibre wrap to the wrong pole might lead to breakages.
