You did a great job, I hate trying to put on decals.

Good choice of decals, looks good. Amazing how impactful the change was to the headlight, just like you observed yourself. Personally I prefer the more legacy KTM SM colours of Orange/Black/White, I would replace the blue plastics with the previous gen black, matches the comfort seat too.

Thank you. Funnily enough someone else mentioned about the black plastics as well. I may just look into it.

Great DIY job considering you couldn't remove the oem decals. Just about to order decals for my gen 3 SDR from moto Pro works as heard good things about them. Great content and very useful. Cheers 👍 Ride safe

Thank you, much appreciated. I've heard good things about them to. I'd also take a look at MCN Grafix. I got my SDR ones from them.

@@Robbiemoto thanks for alternative. I shall check them out. Moto Pro works are a European company so it a pain with the tax thing but a quality full kit. Anything new for the SDR?

@@shaney765 Yeah, the joys of Brexit 🙂. At least MCN Grafix are a UK company. The only plans for the SDR at the moment is a remap but that probably going to be a 2-3 months time. The 690 gets mapped first.

Nice job - love how its relatively cheap to change the look of these bikes 👍 Also I'd like to know your thoughts on the 690 vs 701?
@Robbiemoto

Thanks. They pretty much ride the same. Only real differences are the plastics and looks. Apart from that they’re the same bike.

Did you remove the headlight mask decal before you added the new one or did your bike not come with one?

Yes I removed it. The only decal that was removable.

How come your bike is still shiny? I found if I wipe my bike with degreaser, WD40 or even Pledge it strips the gloss off. When you said you were going to degrease the plastics prior to adding the decals I cringed waiting for all the gloss to come off, but it didn't. I had to buy new plastics for my SMC within a week after degreaser stripped the shine! :(

Thats a real shitter mate. I've used all three of those products on the paint work of my bikes over the years. My old Bandit 12 was always coated with Mr sheen after a wash and dry. Had the panels been resprayed from a previous owner ?

@@Robbiemoto The bike was brand new 3 weeks ago. I had replacement plastics on order within a week of it leaving the showroom. I've used all sorts of products on painted and clear-coated plastics, but unpainted dirt bike plastics are new to me and seem to behave totally differently when touched by anything with solvents in them.

Wow. I hope you managed to get a claim through warranty. There’s no way they can say to not use degreaser on what is in essence an enduro trials bike. The degreaser I used was water based not solvent. But I was prepared to use white spirit. The dealer told me I could use. Brake cleaner.

@@Robbiemoto I've just spent 45 minutes speaking to a KTM dealer and subsequently their valeting company and their response was "KTM plastics are the worst if you want to keep your bike in nice condition. They scratch to bits and they go matt with any chemicals. We just mist them with XCP Clearcoat after a wash to try to give some temporary shine, but you can't keep the gloss. Anything other than a mild shampoo and they go matt.". So Robbie, whatever cleaners you've used, keep using them. Even the pros don't know what to use on KTM soft plastics to keep them as good as yours. I'm genuinely considering ebaying my brand new 24 plate bike as the stress of ownership is doing my head in. :(

@timwatsonuk That sucks big time. I’ve not heard anyone else say the finish is crap though. I wonder if they’re spinning you a line, who knows 🤷🏻♂️ I wash mine with a snow foam the guy that ceramic coated my 1290 uses. It’s from a. Company called motoverde. They do all sorts of cleaning products for bikes and they’re not harsh chemicals either. I’ll message him and ask if he’s heard or seen this before as he’s a bike detailer. www.shinysideupvalet.com

I just do not get this whole "decal" / sticker thing, it looks like they cost a lot and for what? To advertise someone else's goods! I personally think I could put that money into a new set of tyres or brake pads. Each to their own, you just don't notice the colours when you are riding in my opinion.
@Robbiemoto

You’re exactly right. Each to their own. Some people like to make their bikes more personal, make it a little different to how it came out the factory, whether it be stickers, bolt on parts or even colouring the brand name on your tyres. That kit cost £89 from the KTM dealer. Pretty good price compared to some graphics companies. And don’t get me wrong if I need tyres or brake pads then obviously they would have been priority. The bike world would be a boring place if we all rode the same looking bike. ❤️

Purchased a 2023 KTM SMC 690 R after having a previous model of the same bike. This bike is truly an abomination, especially in terms of engine and components. Given the terrible purchase, I decided to completely modify it to try to make it run properly. I have completely modified the bike with: Full Tekmo exhaust without cat Dedicated map DNA air filter Removal of recirculation and canister The bike has improved, but the power delivery remains terrible. One thing that can't be modified is the lack of engine braking due to electronic intervention. Therefore, there is no engine braking, and it feels like riding a 2-stroke. Additionally, the throttle response makes it hard to get braking points right if you brake hard. The quality of all the plastics has deteriorated significantly. I already have engine covers that are all scratched up (probably due to lower-quality plastic). Terrible purchase. DO NOT BUY this bike if you want a supermoto.
