Where's the air gap between boards and insulation?

if the rafters are not flush, is there anything you would suggest to pack in to make it level?

Is it recommended that the floor boards are laid parallel to the loft rafters or perpendicular to them? Does it make a difference? I have 2.4m x 0.6m boards which are interlocking so i'm wondering if the interlocking will make it act like a one big floor. In other words laying direction unimportant???

Deffo perpendicular, to spread the load across as many joists as possible

Do you pre drill the tops of the legs before screwing on the boards?

It says on packaging you don't have to but I found it helps if you do

Good video mate, did you pre drill the holes for the chipboard / loft legs? Where did you get your chipboard panels from please? Thanks :)

I am hearing bad things about this system eg uneven weight distribution causing problems with the ceiling below - thoughts anyone?

Just run 3 rows of 7"x2" perpendicular to the joists - insulate in between and board on top - cheaper and stronger

If these were used all over the loft, would it be possible for a person to walk across them?

Hi Colin, yes the legs are strong enough to walk on.

There would be no point putting boards up if you couldn't walk on them 🤔🤗🤣🤣

Question: Why didn't you install the floor board starting from the wall? As per the video, you left a gap between the wall and the floorboard exposing some insulation? Is there a reason for this?

Yes

I was thinking the same, I would've gone straight from wall and work backwards away from roof

Likely to allow the insulation to breathe.

could I use a weight bench with these?
@networkchina

Hi, we wouldn't recommend using a weight bench. While they are plenty strong enough to walk on we recommend long term static storage of no more than 50Kg per square metre as the strength of each individual roof structure varies.

@@paw7110 I think you’ll find you need a gap for airflow between the insulation and the boards. At least 50mm. But then what do I know?

This is not a great video loft boards should not be right next to the insulation, there should be a 25 to 50 mm air gap between the boards and the glass fibre insulation to avoid condensation, and im only a beginner diyer relatively speaking, so guys/gals leave a gap between insulation and boards, otherwse you may have problems further down the line
@pofrani

How do you add the gap? Get a taller leg or thinner insulation?
