That's hilarious, but very likely true. It that was MY vice principal, I'd make him sit down and tell me every story about that too brief career. And then show me that riff-which is not the easiest little arpeggio for a beginning guitarist.

+Mike Rabon, personal friend of mine! They recorded in Tyler Texas. Robin "Hood" Bryan, the owner, and chief engineer, helped create a unique "Five Americans" sound. I never get tired of " Western Union", "Zip Code", "The Sound of Love", "Evol Not Love" "I see the Light" to name a few. I have visited "Robin Hood Studios", and had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. B, who was raking leaves in the front yard when I arrived. When I asked her about the studio, she personally gave me a tour. Beautiful wood flooring, and the shiny black grand piano encased in a clear wall room, was noticed immediately. Gold Records for ZZTop's "La Grange" album, "The Five Americans" as well as a plethora of singles such as "Judy in Disguise", "Apple Cider" were covering a wall. +Lloyd Tucker's "Barefax" recorded their hit "Woman" there. He and I formed a band, and he was the guy who first told me about this little studio in Tyler Texas. Another friend, +Stewart Odell, bass player for the great Oklahoma City group, The Midnight Rebels, also recorded "Dont Make Me Over", whih became a regional "smash" hit!

I also subscribed to your channel, as the 60's 70's music is my music. The singles on the actual labels, is gratifying to see. I am going to see Jackson Browne this Sunday....

Terry Pursell Thanks for subbing! :) In case you are interested, I have two other channels. One is '60s70sChicagoRock', as that is the area I'm from. It was created as a dedication to local bands from my teen years. (Also the band, Chicago!). There's also some random clips from concerts I went to... like there are here. Another is a potential 'backup' when YT threatened to shut me down due to copyright violatons. That one is 'onlythebginning,' also focuses on Chicago. Jackson Browne does a good show... saw him a few yrs ago. I have a few not-so-good-filmed-off-jumbotron vids of him on the ChicagoRock channel. Not so much for fans, but so I can remember these great shows in my 'golden years', lol!! Have a good time on Sunday. :)

Pure pop sugar! The boys from Durant, Oklahoma. Generally believed to have written the song themselves, with some post production polishing. I think they all went back to being teachers when 60s pop faded by the end of the decade.

@@knifelyfe6565 In one of the early bands in which I played, my friend played organ with a Leslie, and when he turned it on, it gave a sound you just couldn't recreate any other way. Of course, that was back in the early 70's, but damn it was an incredible sound. Arjen Luccasson uses one in "The Day The World Breaks Down" with a Hammond. Perfect sound!

What show was that? It was rare that pop/rock artists played live on TV shows back then; normally they lip-synched to their records. But the Americans were gettin' it on for real on that clip!

Excellent tune sounding like it was penned by the monkeys writing staff. They had the top writers and studio cats. These boys did well to compete with that if only for a short time

I was born in 1982 and have to admit I wish I had been born earlier. I think being born in about 1948 would have been perfect for me. Oh well, I just caught the tail end of some really cool things and I am so glad I did.

You got the birth year correct for me. I was in Temple High School, in Temple, Texas, when The Five Americans came to play for our high school prom. I was the drummer for a local rock band, The Buccaneers, and my date was ticked at me, because all I did that night was stand by the drummer for this group and watch his every move. They were really great to hear live and that Vox organ was the same as our organist played. In face, we also auditioned at the Pirate's Nook in Dallas that year. They were essentially the house band there, I believe. We had to audition on their instruments, as the owner didn't want them removed so we could play our own. We simply could not play well on their stuff and we never got to replace them. The drummer had the loosest foot pedal to his base drum that I had ever seen. Sadly, most of these guys in that band are now passed away. Same with the guys in my band, too. I believe they all wore blue blazers when they played at my high school in 1968. It surprised me to find these guys were from the Hugo and Durant area of Oklahoma. The did a California tour after the Temple gig and pretty well faded away afterwards. I enjoyed seeing and hearing them. They really had no stage presence as to doing any coordinated dance steps like Paul Revere and The Raiders, but they played very well and I really enjoyed being there to have experienced it live at the time. My date didn't enjoy it so much, but I sure did.

Man, these guys deserved better than they got. They were better than several contemporaries such as The Buckinghams, Gary Puckett & the Union Gap, several others. They were accomplished songwriters, not too prolific but still "Western Union", "Tell Ann I Love Her","Evol Not Love", "I See the Light", "ZIP Code", and several others. Actually, when you come down to it, they had more good songs than Sonny & Cher.
