Nice. Thank-you for this. I have a Kenwood XR600-1 that is rated at 400 watts RMS at 4 ohms or 600 at 2 ohms. It measures 8-11/16in - W x 1-7/16in - L x 8in. It has always amazed me since I bought it that something this small like the Kenwood in this video can put out so much power and do it all day long without breaking down. I have owned the amp for 2 years now with no issues at all. Hopefully these 2 amps are reliable over the long term as they both seem to pack a large amount of power into a small chassis.

Thanks for this video. Based on the results of the testing I bought the Kenwood. I ordered the X801-5 you tested but ended up getting sent the X802-5 (All input/output & remote SW control on one side, all x-over/sensitivity controls on the other). I ran the amp with the stock radio at first til I decided which head unit I wanted. I ended up going with the Kenwood Excelon to make it a matching set. 6 months later and I don't regret my choices.

so what i gather in a quick search is that the pioneer gm-dx975 is basically the slightly upgraded version of the D-9605 - did you get a chance to look at single-channel output for it to see if the "safe" claim of 75w at 4ohm is legit? i'm hoping to set the gains for the GM DX975 for 80w per channel.. which is what my front comps RMS is rated.. (so basically 17.98 vac output).

@mattwells1036
6 жыл бұрын
both did better than I expected, very nice to see that both companies have fairly honest ratings. however if I were to get a 5 channel amp, I'd most certainly go for sundown audios rendition of such an amp, I don't quite remember the ratings I've seen posted for the left and right speakers, or the specific ohm load, and I do not know whether it was tested with all channels driven either. but I believe the left and right are done class ab with a separate class D for the sub channel. and the sub channel is rated at 800watts rms, with some massive dynamic rms numbers posted (I believe they dropped the sub channel to .5 and it did 1500watts dynamic power. we all know neither of these amps will do that power even if dropped to .5... they'd probably blow up.) now ive already seen dyno numbers of it, but it'd be cool to see them on video, with you showing all channels driven.. it's not a cheap amp though.. even though I already have a subwoofer amp, I'm slightly tempted for going for that amp when the time comes for me to get a full range 4ch.. maybe I could run some sealed 8s along with whatever is on the separate sub amp
@wal
6 жыл бұрын
The Class AB plus D 5 channel amps have been popular for many years. They offer SQ for the mids/highs and power for the subs. Most mfg’s are moving to full Class D designs now due to size, efficiency, cost, etc reasons. I had a Memphis “Big Belle” a while back and it was rated (and delivered) 75x4 AB and 1100x1 Class D. That was a great, all-in-one amp. That Sundown sounds pretty interesting as well...
@mattwells1036
6 жыл бұрын
I definitely would prefer AB for the mids and highs. class D can be just as good as ab for sq, but it they have their disadvantages. and unfortunately there's lots of cheap crappy class D full range amps out there. the sundown amp is the only one I've actually been interested in. sundown is known for making quality amplifiers, always capable of running below the rated ohm load, without issue. I wish I could find .5 ohm ratings for my amp, sundown sae1000d, I'm happy with the 1ohm ratings, I really like the dynamic numbers I've seen 1470watts rms is pretty good, but I gotta find a .5 ohm certified, clipping and dynamic.. I can do my own live power testing with an amp clamp and another volt meter.. I have no peak hold settings on either though, but my sa 12 d2 should put a pretty decent load on it.. probably not quite a 1 ohm load after speaker dynamics and my boxes rise however.

I have a Pioneer mono block for my sub which also has a remote... The remote was a nice thing before I had one... Maybe it's just me but it boosts bass at a certain frequency that makes it sound hollow... So it's always turned down.... I actually purchased a Kenwood amplifier similar to the Pioneer and ended up returning it before I had the chance to audition it.... I have always been a Kenwood guy... I actually still have my KRC923 cassette deck which still functions and still sounds amazing... You really would be hard pressed to tell the difference between a cassette or CD. The amplifier is the KAC PS 201T.. What an amazing amplifier... I always had suspicions that it was punching well above it's weight... But this Kenwood 5 channel amplifier is really nice.... I would love to hear your opinion on how the sound compares between the two... I have tried class D and it just doesn't cut it sound quality wise to my ears... My old Kenwood ran hot when driven hard but it is a class A/B so that's to be expected... But that sound.... Sooooo goooood.

what do you think about the pioneer 2400 box rating. amp with 1200 watt rms. I'm more less wondering about the longevity of the amp. I'm building a system for my sister. she likes pioneer. she had a. old school pioneer amp. and liked it. and how efficient is it? we need 800-1600watts. and I'm thinking the pioneer may have decent SQ. I'm thinking the sub's will be dual 2 ohm. will it do 1-2 ohm being a mono amp? I have seen videos about them. I can't tell SQ. or if they will live. do they run hot? I hope you can answer my questions. we also been considering skar amps. I have seen a few broken baskets on new sub's of theirs. so I'm concerned about the quality and life expectancy of their amps. I'd love to have my old hifonics zeuse amp. it was a 97' model I think. maybe 98;. I had it on four 15" JL's it was going on two 18" kickers. but I got ripped off. ended up with JL's. the amp had less than a week on it! $1000🚽! any way. no point crying over it. again!

Hey, I know this is a bit old but I am considering this amp for one of my vehicles and just trying to get some understanding with regards to the full range channels. I know that the amp is rated at 50 Watts x 4. But the way that the testing was done is a bit confusing to me and hoping you can clarify. I would love to see an Orion HCCA 11k on the dyno. I don't know if your power supply is big enough though. I love your videos! Keep it up.

Still shopping for a replacement 5ch setup for my system. 2001 RF 400a4 and a 2004 JL 500/1. Looking to move to a single amp with similar power. Have you seen anything lately BigD? Looking for: 70-100x4 @ 4ohm 500×1 @ 2ohm 2 JL 8w3, in a home made slot port box tuned to ~34hz. Components 6.5 Coax 2way for rear fill 6.5 I have heard you need a subsonic filter for ported boxes, this is where I usually get stuck. I find a amp that fits goals only to see no subsonic. Thanks for the videos!!

I use ported daily with no subsonic and have no issues. The JL HD900/5 is a bit spends, but will do what you want...

@@wal BigD I got a craigslist score. Kenwood XR900-5 for $70!!!! I jerry-rigged an old Lexus battery so less than 12 volts. And hooked up 6.5 speakers and the sub ran music off my phone via rca to headphone jack...very nice(Borat). Impressive. Thanks for the great review.

My dad got me into audio way back when I was a kid! I always liked JBL & my dad still has some OLDSCHOOL James B. Lancing 15" studio speaker's still working! But where he & I have seperate hearing is he love's Kenwood I love pioneer! His home audio is a Kenwood 4k watts amp it weights like 120lbs & reference klipshe I'm keeping my AVH3100DVD and swapping my JBL 804ez & 501EZ for DRAGO 10k and all MASSIVE AUDIO! But i always wanted to see POWERBASS vs PLANNET AUDIO DRAG /dyno race!

I have this Kenwood amp. Do you think it could handle Alpine Type R components in the front and coaxials in the rear deck?

It would be nice if you got your hands on a big 5 channel like the Audison 5.1K or Phoenix Gold elite.5. Test the channels not bridged as if someone were running an active setup

How would Big-D rate that Porter Cable drill of urs? Cuz I was thinkin of getting that same drill u used to open the amps up with I was thinkin I'd update my 3yr old Porter Cable set and that new one ur using looks like a nice one & looks like ther keepin ther well balanced in hand design but how does it perform for u? BTW Great video I just saw the same drill I've been eyeing for a few weeks and aint too many people I trust for ther honest opinion so figured couldn't hurt to ask

I love it. Not a super heavy user, but when I need them, they are rock solid. I use all of the items from drill to circular saw to jigsaw and more. Great quality and value IMO

dual sigma drive is the same as yamaha's st (YST) ? i wonder if other amps have the same type of tech but simply dont market it. aaand if you could see an actual diffrence in cone movement in a comparison between non dual sigma / yst and ones with.

Infinity and Velodyne has also offered powered home subs with servo control. Kenwood’s implementation sounds like a generic offering. I’m sure it’s much easier to understand feedback when used with a specific driver 🔊
