I'm envious! Back in the 90s, I was an avid Icelandic Sagas reader. Beautiful landscapes. Great photos! Lots of great waterfalls. The geometric volcanic rock formations look like Giant's Causeway. My wife and I are currently in Sopot, (Gdansk, Gdynia, Hel) Poland, enjoying the beaches. The kielbasa and sauerkraut are great, too. Still haven't found any fish soup here. 😢 Thanks for sharing your adventure!

Poland is on my list of places to go. I’m hoping for a Poland, Baltic States, Finland combo. The basalt columns are similar to the Giants Causeway (from the photos I’ve seen). The black sand beach we didn’t go to has them as well.

We as foreigners subscribers as overseas students want to explore places unknown to us , increase our cultural level and, improve our English as well . I gathered main information about places you visited briefly here it’s Iceland is Nordic island country between North Atlantic and Artic ocean on mid Atlantic ridge between North America and Europe. It’s linked culturally and politically with Europe. Capital is Reykjavik. Official language is lcelandic . There are interesting facts about Iceland such as 24 hours darkness, beautiful lights . Lush with Viking . Home to many people hot spot . Prohibition period completely ended in 1989 . Said there are elves live there . Hot springs . Bridge between continents. Land of fire , Ice . Gender equality. World known geyser. Golden circle . There are viking heritage. Contains about 200 volcanoes and , one of third earth lava flow . Black beaches . Snaefelsness peninsula is worth visiting known for glacier volcano. Called Iceland in miniqnture. Glacier volcano park there are no admission free , including black beaches, mountain volcanic crater , bird life , caves . Golden circle is route from Reykjavik to thingvellir beysir and gullfoss of route and back to Reykjavik and make circle.

Now, I could add Photography, birds and botany to my obsessions. You are so lucky to have visited. Was there any visible volcanic action? I've been whale watching just south of me off Dana Point, CA, so I know how awesome that experience is!

I was surprised how affected I was by seeing the whales. Before we set off it was the thing I was looking forward to the least, but it was awesome. The most recent eruptions were on the peninsula very near The Blue Lagoon, but there hadn’t been any activity for a few weeks so we didn’t see anything. I think they just reopened to tourists the last week of June.

Thanks for sharing this amazing trip! Five days seems so short to visit Iceland! I had a look at possible itineraries, and they were all around 20 days; but I would want to hike up and over all the things. It seems like a very American perspective to be economical with time, and as you said, to also not mind much driving in a day. Where are the trees? The landscapes are beautiful, but it feels so weird to see no forests at all!
@BookishTexan
Ай бұрын
@@njdinostar Thanks for watching. Five days fit all three of our schedules and our finances. Since we travel from the US 5 days on the ground meant two days in the air so a week in total. Even one extra day made a significant difference in our airfare. And to be honest Iceland is expensive in every way. We could never afford 20 days. We did our hikes in the places we wanted to see the most. I assume the trees either never existed or were depopulated to build housing as the population grew.
@njdinostar

@@BookishTexan I think the short travel is more common in the US for the reasons you share; within Europe flights are less expensive (both in time and money), and we get more paid leave in general. I would feel rushed visiting for 5 days, but it was great seeing your perspective (also for Scotland). I haven't been to either yet, because I would like to go longer and need to plan the finances and days for it, and I love seeing you just making these dream holiday locations work. It looks like such a good time. I really wonder about the trees, I will have to ask a local guide/museum about it when we get around to visiting too ;)
