I don't know what the clean up and modifications to your existing home will be, but have you considered with the money you will spend to repair, you could buy supplies for a brand new home, and have a house raising (like the old fashioned barn raising) . You could move your home to a perfect spot on your property, and have a new mold free home. My husband and I built our first home ourselves...all of it...from laying the foundation to building our own windows....no family help just us. I was 18 and he was 24 when we started. It took us a long time, but the cost was a fraction of the cost of a new home. It might be worth looking into building supplies. You have a multitude of friends that im sure would help you for free....thinking and praying for you all xo

I may have taken your comment the wrong way, but I am sure the Hollar's would step up and help this couple any time. It's not the Hollar's fault ( nor is it Art and Bree's fault) that there is mold in this house.. It sounds like you are being unkind to the Hollar's from the way you worded your comment. You may not be and I have probably just taken what you have said the wrong way.. Please forgive me if this is just my being over sensitive, but I am sure the Hollar family would step up if they were needed.. And I know the Hollar's appreciate ALL the help the other homesteaders have given them with their property in North Carolina... Anyway, I have said enough.. And again, If I have taken your comment the wrong way and I have spoken out of turn, I am sorry and please forgive me.. I mean no harm, but maybe you don't realize how your comment sounds to other people.. God bless you ..

@@norweavernh I just clearly heard you say it was perhaps time for everyone to show up & pitch in at a different homestead, Art & Bri's just like they did at the Hollar Homestead.. You were clear to me.. Art & Bri could use some help too! But it sounded like a lot of what they will need to do, they would prefer to have done professionally rather than have mold spores being spread in the air & contaminating the entire house... Not to say that people would not be careful.. But professionals have some expensive & sophisticated tools that private individuals do not possess. Plus.. professionals can be held financially accountable to some degree if a job goes bad.

@sherylintheraw , They could simply move into the play area of their barn for awhile. In my case , if I had to , I could live in my garage for awhile if needed. There is a second floor in my garage that is currently vacant and only collecting dust . It's not very homey but it's doable. Just as with their barn. There is water to the barn. They could use a portable gas cook top. I do not know the cost of having a company deal with the mold problem. I have the feeling that it is serious money. In which case it may be wise to demolish the house and build a new one. Gofundme would help as would your community.

I live in very humid SW Florida and completely understand what you are going through. After hurricane Charley my daughter and I were so sick and diagnosed with mold poisoning. The mold in our home is something we still fight to keep at bay. Mold is never good but there are some strains that are way worse. So that is important to know what kinds of mold you have. Some are irritating but do not usually cause any lasting damage but some can cause long lasting health issues. Knowing the types is important to deciding if you can stay for now. Thanks for sharing this struggle, this could save others from similar situations. Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you deal with this. 💕

When our son was 2, we bought a house that had mold in the crawl space. (Water was seeping under the crawl space.) We were all sick with respiratory illnesses several times a month. We tried various remediations without success. Finally, an honest company told us the mold had permeated the wood floor joists, wood flooring and sheet rock, essentially all of our house. They said that nothing could be done to effectively eliminate the pervasive mold spores. The owner of the company told us that in his opinion, we would have to either sell and move or have the house removed and the property graded and rebuild. Since you love your property and have put so much work into it, have you considered: 1. Talking to your home owners insurance about the mold problem? 2. Have your physician declare the house uninhabitable because of its health detriment to your children? Check your insurance policy to determine how this affects you. 3. Have the house torn down and removed, have grading/French drains, etc. completed? 4. Purchase a modular house shell? Less expensive if you and your friends do the inside finishing work. 5. Talk to whoever financed your house, if you're still paying on it. A house can be refinanced or you can get a bridge loan to have your new modular financed. Sometimes you have to ask yourselves if "You're throwing good money after bad" by remediations. What if the remediations aren't successful?

I commented a previous mold video. I'm glad that Bri has a good understanding of my recommendation. Art, listen to Bri and other commenters. Hire the team of professionals with the proper equipment, taped high-speed ventilation chambers, and sealants to remove, clean, and seal the mold affected areas, (which is extensive you know). As you convey in this video, you are already over flowing with chores. Let the experts do this work in a comprehensive short period, while you and Bri focus on the garden, the animals, home schooling, nursing job, and youtube production. I also suggested getting a motor home rental... your insurance might pay this expense. Or borrow one from a friend. You could also set up very large tent for a home schooling area. Just go with Bri... hire the professionals and "get ur done before winter." Make sure they will give you an installment plan to pay over 2 to 3 years. I agree with others, a gofundne acct. would be a way for us to help you defray the remediation costs.

Write down your problem and do an algorithm out from there as to how you are going to fix the problem. Your fixes can be your steps to accomplish your goals to get ready for remediation, who to contact, and the other “Who’s, what’s, when’s, where’s, and how’s” etc. Cross off each as you go and add on as you need to. This way you create a list of what’s going on and what you need to do. Hope this helps. Love and hugs to you guys! 💖🌺💖🌺

I would so be making a one room home to live in while they treat the house in the room where you did the party. Nothing fancy just insulate the walls and floor a couple old windows.

Absolutely use the barn! Don't delay - The weather is good this time of year and the kids would love camping out. Home school outside while the contractors are removing the mold. Set up a double burner camp stove outside and do the canning out there. I've watched lots of homesteaders doing that. You'll figure it out- you're just in a state of shock and probably if you just get STARTED shifting your lives for several months you'll find the energy and decisions will start flowing. I would start TODAY - just get cots and a composting toilet into the barn to get out of the house all night. One step at a time. Call your friends - they'll help!

I heard about a study done on childhood allergies in Belgium. They attribute it to the children being CLOSELY associated with animals EARLY 1ST 5-6 years.when a child's system is growing and building lifelong immunities. Those kids (as of 10 yrs ago HAD NO ALLERGIES) That may have changed now, with vaccines making NATIONs sicker than we've ever been in past. Maybe sure ing up the barn around a Camper? I dont kno

Here in New Zealand we have a huge amount of children being hospitalised with respitory issues steming from the housing crisis in our nation with so many houses having mold issues due to poor ventilation, insulation, and damp issues, poorly built buildings for the climate we have essentially. So my heart goes out to you all, as we were in one of these homes and we had to move out because it was so bad, same as you guys mold through pillows mattresses, the carpet the walls the windows..arrrgh, but we could walk away from it as it was a rental... So lots of love coming your way, I think the go fund me page others have suggested is a great idea to help you all through this season.

Koronawa and Johanna Gukibau, she has a teenage stepdaughter, no little ones. I’ll let her know about this, thank you! She did make her husband get a heater when she moved there a few years ago, so she’s been warmer. It has been quite an adjustment with the climate being so different than the hot and arid western US!

Hey Art, your vulnerability shows you are human, it makes you relate-able and genuine. It makes people love you more and encourage and support you through the process. I understand the respiratory issues. I am having serious chemical reactions similar to extreme asthma, chronic fatigue and more. It is all because of living near mills.

Most importantly get out of the house. That worry of the health issue helps lift a big weight off your heart and mind. Prioritize with fixing land and drainage or the rest is a moot point. You need a gift of an on property rv, trailer, camper, whatever first. So if there are homesteaders or church people or other people that can donate a place for them to live on their property for the next 6 months through the winter of next year into the Spring, that is what they need because they obviously would have bought that by now if they had the money.

I agree with all the others that suggested building a new home. Once mold gets a hold, it is really hard to stop and control. You may try to remove it, but are not guaranteed that it will not come back - then all that effort and money would be wasted.

i want to thank you for showing us your imperfections and your weaknesses... it reminds all of us that you are not just a family doing this homesteading thing onthe tube ...you are real people with real lives and real problems ...and for that i am thankful .... im am sorry that you are going through this rough time at the moment and it too shall pass , but in the mean time there is work to do to get you back on the straight and narrow .... and to once again enjoy the love of the land , animals , and eachother as you should .... i dont know when your winters start where you are or how cold they get ..but maybe fixing up the barn play area for you to live in for a couple months while your house gets healthy again may be an option for you will help alleviate the monitary pressure of renting a mobile home or such for the duration of the fix .... you have great support in the community around you i have seen it with the rhodes and roots and refuge and many others that you have lent a helping hand to ... maybe it is time to put the word out that now its your time to get a helping hand ... and im praying that they recognise that them selves without having to be asked .... you will get through this ,with a few bumps and bruises mind you, but you will definatly be stonger in mind body and spiritually for having gone through this ordeal... i pray that you friends , family and community pull together to help you, lead you support you, heal you and comfort you

#Bri and #Art I have told y’all we have the same issue with mold. And for us, our cat got sick around 3 years. A blood test was sent to Little Rock to try and find out if his respiratory problems were killing him. We didn’t know it was “ black “ mold or not. Because we also have problems in our two bathrooms. The only difference is the color. Where it is in the walls the color is black. And in the bathrooms the color is pink. I can clean each toilet daily and still with in a day thebpink mold is back. We live in a mobile home. My husband started working to get rid of the mold. He tore out one room at a time. Plus he used a respirator. That’s when we found out you must never disturb dry dust of mold. And our cat kept getting sicker and sicker. We have two inside cats. And both were born outside. The vet told me Buddy must have gotten spores in his lungs from them mama. I don’t know how the rest of the liter did after I found them each a new forever home. The vet said the mama must have gotten into the mold and had spores on the tit that Buddy suckled. His brother seems to be fine. I have to give Buddy pills everyday. If I accidentally forget to give him the fluid pill or the steroid pill he will start to relapse. His lungs look like someone that has been smoking since birth. Y’all talked about replacing walls and floors. We did that. Well my husband did it. And he has been working on this trailer for over two Years! First he replaced the hall. Then the front bathroom. And from there he replaced the bedroom closes to the hall and bathroom. It was bad Very Bad! Now our kitchen floor and living room floor plus the other bathroom has to have the floors all replaced. The hall that he did first already needs replacing Again. And the floor in the bedroom floor is starting to rise up. We are trying to sell stuff and gather enough money to start whet the problem should have been addressed first before any walls or floors were replaced. This whole trailer and added on room HAS to be raised up with all underpinning to remain off until no dampness is detected. Plus the added room has to be torn down. We are positive this is where the mold problem started. There is only enough space under that room that you have to belly crawl to get around underneath it. We are going to raise the trailer up to at least 5 block high. Our property holds water. We are way too low! The saddest part is we bought time place from extended family members and they knew about the mold problem 😩😢😭😤😠😡

I agree with what some others have said. Rent a trailer/rv/mobile home and have the professionals come in and clean it up. Maybe strike a deal to provide part labor from you. And start a gofund me! Those of us who love you guys and this channel would love to help out! I hope you guys can get things rolling soon. We are battling the same issues in our parents house. Trust me take the help and hire professionals.

Maybe some family or friends have a trailer or mobile home you could use for awhile. Also, it sounded like it is going to cost a lot of money to get rid of the mold, plus hire other contractors to do other jobs like you mention. Wouldn’t it be better to start over, and use the money to rebuild? I worry that the mold could just grow back years later too. Just some suggestions. I wish you and your family the best, love your videos. So sorry that you have to deal with this.

When you're feeling overwhelmed, pray. The more overwhelmed you feel, the more you pray. Remember, God has already given you strength that you need. All you have to do is thank Him for it. ❤🌅🌵 also, remember that you can only eat an elephant one bite at a time... Try not to look at the elephant, focus on your plate for just this meal. I know the feeling and the pride of not wanting to accept help. I find myself on the receiving end of help , I think, more than others. So when I get a chance to repay them it makes me feel great. Maybe you'll get an offer, someone letting you use their trailer while work is being done on the house. If friends offer, consider it. It's a gift for you both. If none of your friends offer, I'm certain you're still going to get it taken care of. I definitely appreciate all that you've been sharing, keep up the good work.

We have a problem of a similar nature, we have mould growing in our basement in the wall due to moisture. Yearly, every one of us would get sick in strange ways. We live in an urban area, and can't afford to fix the problem so right now the room has been off limits and since then, those of us living upstairs haven't gotten sick since. God bless your family, you will get through this.
