I literally grew up in TV. I became an antenna guy running crews when I was 12 years old. If a booster goes bad disconnect and wire it straight. It really does not need it anyway for short wired antenna systems. Distribution amps helps in covering many rooms and or homes. The best gain is obtained with 0 db noise, how many detectors and good reflectors. Your 200 mile range can only be obtained with the correct line of sight and a limited number of items to block the signal. I trained myself and began MATV in a large area of very deep fringe TV reception. We installed multiple homes, nursing homes, hospitals, and motels. I eventually began working with High Q boxes and channel traps for separate channel antennas. I'm an old man now but I enjoyed my work. In some valleys in the mountains we built repeaters to deliver signal to very remote locations. These antennas can all be capable of very long distance reception if the line of sight is available. If not no antenna will work. At one time this was the only way to get TV in deep fringe areas. Keep up the good work young man because with the satellites what goes up will come down. With the new digital technology antennas could easily become the norm again. Keep researching.

I bought one of these "Junk" antennas (LAVA) in 2010. The rotator never worked, but the amplifier worked until recently one day. The problem I had was that the power supply failed, but the amplifier still worked when I substituted another power supply to get it back going. Actually, I used the power supply from a Channel Master 7777 to power it. I would classify this antenna as being "Functional" yet flimsy, so it would be best to use it as an indoor / attic antenna, that is, if you already have one to play with (Don't buy). My experience is that it was better on UHF than VHF, given the same signal strengths for both frequencies. As a cord cutter and "Experimenter" plus with a wife who doesn't care what I put on the roof . I recently bought the Antenna's Direct 8DXB (Or DBX8 as it's also called, I think) for $45 with sales tax and a coupon. Great antenna, but did not pick up any VHF which I totally expected upon my purchase (Totally fine). I paired this with my Channel Master 7777 amplifier on a tripod in my family room (Temporarily until mounting on the roof with another VHF antenna). We are about 30 air miles North of Baltimore Television Hill transmitters, and I receive all but the two VHF stations, but all other UHF channels are very strong (Not surprising). We also receive UHF channels from the Harrisburg market which is about 60 air miles away (UHF). My Channel Master 7777 has a separate VHF input, so I took the VHF elements off of the "Junk" antenna and attached it to the VHF only input to of the amplifier (Using a balun and short coax), and this added back the two Baltimore VHF stations and the one VHF station from the Harrisburg / Lancaster market (And stronger than before). I also think that the amplifier you use makes the difference, so the right antenna combination for your area (Which can differ for each of us) along with a good amplifier (I think Channel Master Titan presently) seems to be the right combination to consider. My experience, but what do you think?

My personal experience is that adding a preamp to an antenna only makes things worse. Even when I was trying to pull in signals from San Diego (I live in LA) a preamp made things worse. This was in the days of analog TV. A large antenna, mounted high, with good cable RG-6, could pull signals about 100 miles away. In fact, I could get analog signals from Tijuana, Mexico. The switch to digital made this a lot harder to pull off. As a side note, I could talk to fellow hams in San Diego with just 5 watts on the 2 meter FM band. One watt was possible, but it was very scratchy.

1. Antennas can't give you better sound or picture. It varies per station's kbps (audio) and mbps (picture). What does come with a strong antenna is the lack of "no signal" from locals and more stations from other places. 2. Why is Let's Go Brandon a popular chant now? Boosting the ego of a former politician seems funny to me, but people are actually serious about that chant.

I have one of the other ‘worse’ variants. Definitely Chinesium through and through, but I do think the main culprit for why the preamp fails is a shitty soldering job at the connector - specifically the pick-off point for the power supply. For my application it’s still sufficient since I’m roughly 3 miles from 90% of the transmitters in my area, and I’m mainly making use of its [what I would consider] ‘modest’ directivity capabilities to eliminate the multipath issue I have (my apt backs up to a large metal factory building). On particularly clear days I have pulled in a UHF station that is 70 miles, though I think the metal factory building aided as a big reflector in that case. They’re still garbage nonetheless

Before discovering this channel, I bought and used one of those cheap amplified antennas. It appealed to me mostly because it was small and easy to install. Get stations 100 miles away on clear days. Also don’t have to post directly at station tower. I highly recommend the “junk” model. But, it finally died due to ice. I wish you would tell us what we SHOULD by, rather than what we should not. I am using one of those beam type antennas that you say we should not buy, and it is the only thing that I have found that does work. I live about 60 miles from LA.

I would have loved to have seen a test after you smashed the antenna!🤣 BTW, I have a coat hanger antenna that I use. I need to install in the attic, but at one point got about 100 channels. I am within 50 miles of a major city.

Sometimes they will make one that works for years. Other times they ship ones that don't work at all.

after making the mistake of purchasing one of the junk antennas you commonly referred to on your channel about six years ago, I have since learned my lesson thanks to help from you and others on KZitem on how to search for antennas. Happy to say I will certainly steer clear of this product. I am sad to say however, it seems on Amazon for some and inexplicable reason is allowing a greater flood of cheap Chinese tech products to invade their marketplace without much scrutiny and it really makes it challenging to figure out whether or not you’re actually getting something that’s worth the risk of making the investment. i’m thinking not only the FCC, but the FTC may need to start investigating some of the products that are being sold on Amazon at some point. question, I think you did a review on the Winegard elite 70 mile antenna with built-in preamp sometime back. Have you heard any complaints about that particular model? I wants had one installed at my house and it seemed like not terribly long after it was put up the Apple fire started to fail on it. Just curious. Thank you for all your hard work that you do here on KZitem.

Amazon. Also home to the Chinese "9,000,000 lumen" flashlights and "2,000,000 mAh" power banks. Amazon has become like Wish.

I knew from the thumbnail that I would get to see Tyler smash this one! Clicked on it just for that!!! First thought : OMG, Ping Bing Ding plus rotor. The rotor improves(?) the screwing you get from the antenna.

And yet ping bing ding has a good preamp I like to use lol. The rest of their products seem to make them notorious for being bad.

those two reflectors are for UHF, for VHF there’s only a simple dipole cut for VHF frequencies but nothing else than it.

The UHF elements do work as directors on the high VHF band. The effect is not a big one. The best director is about 10% short for the wavelength in question.

I agree with you...FCC needs to stop the fake advertising and claims especially the crap about it being "HD" and such. Junk is junk!
