Hello all,
In this video I share with you some truly beautiful brushes, four from Rosemary & Co. and one from Roman Szmal Aquarius. Full disclosure: I am - as of a week or two ago - an affiliate for Rosemary & Co., which means I get a little something every time someone buys a brush on my recommendation (use code ROISIN2024 if you want to help me!) but the truth is I have been recommending Rosemary & Co. ever since I bought my first R13 back in 2018.
(I have other brushes by Rosemary that aren't featured in this video, which I love, and I am alarmed, because I can't find them. I only hope they're in my studio under all the chaos somewhere...if and when they turn up I will share with you the reasons they're so great too!)
While I sell watercolour paints by Roman Szmal, I no longer sell the brushes. That's because I only have 5 left in stock and I want to keep them for myself, and to give as gifts to some very lucky recipients - I LOVE that brush! So you could say I am biased towards Roman Szmal products in general.
I forgot to say in the video that the reason you need a big fat natural sable or squirrel brush is that a natural brush holds loads of liquid before it runs dry, on one stroke of paint. This means that you can mke lovely skies or other large areas without any brushstrokes to disturb the nice smooth surface.
In the video, I joke about harvesting my rough-coated Jack Russell terrier Reuben's fur for a brush, but the real reason it's a joke is that I don't know how to make brushes. I cut Reuben's hair every month or two, and while I almost invariably make a terrible job of it, there is always a heap of white fluff on the lawn afterwards that gets blown to the four winds, to be picked up by birds making nests. It's MY fur! I pay for Reuben's food and vet bills, so I should have it! If I ever do watch a KZitem video about making a brush, I shall use some of Reuben's by-product for a brush...I am sure he'd like to contribute in some way, as well as making us all as happy as he does :)
Here's a link to Rosemary & Co.'s travel brushes, but you can buy anything from Rosemary and you can still use the code:

There's nothing like a little packet of Rosemary brushes arriving in the post. I can't wait to try others.
Happy sketching - and see you next time!
Róisín X
