For those emotionally charged sessions.
Therapy can be a powerful experience and often times we revisit painful experiences. Your therapist will do their best to help you feel grounded before you end therapy but you might still need some more caring-for. Here are our favorite ways to take are of ourselves after therapy.
1. Take a Hot Shower or Warm Bath: Help your body relax after session if you have the time. You can add any extra sensory tools like candles, a shower steam or bath bubbles.
2. Journal your thoughts: Help your brain process what you've talked about by letting it all out in writing. You can make a short list of what stood out from your therapy or you can write longer entries-- whatever fits best.
3. Meditate/Take Deep Breaths: Help your breathing and your muscles relax by sitting down and relaxing. Adjust it to the time you have until your next activity by doing just a few deep breathes or starting a longer meditation.
4. Spend Time Outdoors: Fresh air and change of scenery can do wonders for your mental health.
5. Listen to Music: Whatever kind helps soothe you.
6. Whatever feels good: there's very rarely a wrong answer.
