Been there, done that, and I can truly say this is gold! First aid in the backcountry is an essential skill set. Unfortunately, though, most of the shoulder dislocation injuries end up in surgeries. Looking forward to seeing some material for the knee injury as well. Not so common for the boarders but much too trivial for the skiers.

Hopefully can help some people out, and great to have Lucy explain it as she is so clear and confident, I have some more episodes with Lucy coming for next winter. Hope yours did not end up in surgery or is all good now. Xv

After I did mine, I was told that folks who get it reduced within 15 minutes have a much better chance at a strong recovery. Do the PT!

I literally dislocated my shoulder snowboarding a few hours ago. Thankfully since its common for me i know how to relocate it myself. Very helpful video though!

In the US as EMT and Ski Patrol we're not allowed to relocate unless there is neurological deficit. I believe if you're over an hour away from definitive care you can also make 1 attempt.

Ah interesting, definitely better to leave it to the professionals if they are close I reckon. But always good to know in case they are not... do you learn how to do it in your training? Xv

I was lucky to dislocate mine inbounds. It was pretty bad. They gave me nitrous oxide, which helped. They didn't do the "arm across the body" technique. I remember the guy facing me and raising my arm to his shoulder.

Glad you got it fixed - think there are a number of different methods - and the nitrous oxide sounds good, that is the Penthrox that Lucy was talking about. Happy adventures. Xv

Yes, not a fun one, I hope not to need it, or to have to use it, but definitely glad I now know. Xv
