What would you search for to locate one of these steel sleeves? I've looked for base plates, feet, anchors, steel sleeves, sleeves, etc. I can find nothing at Home Depot, Lowes, Amazon.... Any help identifying where to get one of these?
Also, if you know someone with a welder, they would be super easy to fabricate. One of those easy to do if you have the tools things... Thanks Leah - great tip!

People should not be celebrating that because it is not Biblical. People say it is about the birth of Jesus - well when Jesus was born his body was flesh - that means you would be celebrating the FLESH and not his spirit. The Bible tells us to crucify the flesh and desires NOT celebrate it. It is also written that the day of death is better than the day of birth - we also need to be born again - we need to be born of the spirit and truth. Also, it is also written do not lay up treasures on earth but lay up treasures in heaven - well what do you think people are doing with all their gifts. Psalm 23 also says ‘I shall not want’ - well what do you normally hear from people around this time? ‘I want this for xmas and I want that for xmas. Kids are treating santa like a god by asking for things and officering sacrifices (milk and cookies etc..). The parents LIE to their kids by telling them santa gives them presents - well who is the father of lies? The answer is SATAN. I could go on but you get the idea - AVOID XMAS LIKE THE PLAGUE AND GET OUT FROM THE DEVIL’S SNARE!!!!

Consider sealing the gap because it's like a cup holding the water in to further rust away the railing, and freeze doing more damage in the winter. A drain hole drilled in that bottom plate would be helpful before permanent install.

A good putty epoxy for engine repair would be good for this. Angle the putty for the rain to shed off of it. It is paintable too. I do think that the new foot is hollow through the bottom. Also I think that I would have cut off the jagged edge of the down pipe and treated the end with Rustoleum to stop more rust.

How perfect that you posted this video. It's like you knew I was searching. Although on my mom's railing, the railing is in tact but the boot around the bottom is corroding and cracking. I don't know how to replace the boot sleeve without tearing out the whole railing. Maybe if Leah comes across a wrap around boot sleeve replacement she can do a video on those as well. NOTE: Don't know what the boot sleeve at the bottom is actually called. Maybe if someone else knows, you can correct my verbiage and I'll know better what to search for on the internet.

Another great tip, Leah! But I would suggest two additional steps: (1) Clean rust off the post and paint it with several coats of rust converter, then a couple finish coats of exterior grade enamel. (2) The repair bracket is larger than the post, so there is a gap for water to get in. This will cause the post to rust away again even faster. I would use some kind of caulking or better yet butyl or silicone sealer to fill that gap.

*Safety note:* You don't want to breath in *any* of that concrete dust. It contains silica particles which can cause *irreversible* lung damage. As such, instead of using tape on the drill bit (to mark the depth) that can blow the dust around, just wind the tape tight without the loose end or mark it with a "Sharpie" pen. You can also use water while drilling to control the dust. And of course it is a good idea to wear a dust mask, especially when blowing the dust out of the holes. Good video.
