Love the welded exhaust hanger in front of the "muffler". Yep, the FE and the FT look almost alike, but not a whole lot interchanges. Not sure if that was really keeping with Ford's slogan "better ideas" or not. FT's are pretty bulletproof, but so were the FE's. You are absolutely right about carburetors and sizing. Back in my day, everyone said that an engine with a 2-barrel carb would be more fuel efficient than any 4-barrel carb and that simply is not true. A properly sized 4-barrel carb will provide much better throttle response and provide good fuel economy so long as you are not constantly pressing the gas pedal to the floor.

First I want to say how much I sincerely enjoy your videos. I am 60 and enjoy being reminded of things I had almost forgotten. I think the holly 2bbl you started with was a dirt track carb they had a 2bbl 500cfm rule. The reason I think this is the 50 cc accelerator pump. I ordered new similar equipped carb NOS cheap off of ebay 4 yrs. ago. Put it on a 400m ford and fought throttle response issues for quite awhile. Re jet, power valve ect. All adjustments using AFR. gauge. Finally pulled all the stock accelerator pump parts out of another carb and solved it. Had to still run accelerator linkage alittle loose but great throttle response. OK why 500cfm 2bbl on the cheap you ask. 400 m other than new no reasonable$$ manifold options. (2) I tow as much as I can get rolling and shift at 3500 - 4000k 500 cfm is just about the max for 400 cubes at that rpm. P.s yea, that adapter with the 4bbl carb would have been a better solution at the time. I didn't go that route as all the adapter I have used were junk. Warpage ect.

I agree, all the ones you can buy are terrible - I designed this one personally and made it less universal so it would be actually better at what it's supposed to do.
