One of my screws broke off and the other was finger loose, so I unscrewed the broken one with a pair of pliers and replaced it with a zip tie as a temporary fix (at least to get me out of the parking lot, lol.) Worked like a charm. It also fixed my park-but-actually-in-neutral issue. Thanks!

Not for me. I couldn't find the t31 screws to tighten on my 2010 crown vic. I took everything apart and still can't locate these 2 screws. It's a ford. I didn't think it would be this difficult.

😎 in the old days we used aqua net, for lock tight. Now days, If you dont have lock tight use some hair gel, or spray paint, or finger nail polish, brush it on, it's a bit more neater.

Excellent video Bob, replacing the shifter bushings can help a lot too, I did so on my ‘99 Ranger awhile back & it’s held up well. But yeah, this is a massive & very common issue on many Ford vehicles of this era that use this shifter “system.” I’ve seen so many Ford trucks, cars & vans that use it have loose/sloppy shifters & then have the gear indicator needle way off from where it should be, or even broken since the crappy cheap plastic bracket often tends to break. I think this should’ve all been a definite recall since it’s been so prevalent over the years.

The most common problem on the Fords is the bushing in the steering rod or the rod itself on top of the steering column

Helpful. However, there are a handful of vids on here about fixing a ford's loose gear shifter by going in a similar way, and accessing those 2 infamous t31 screws- and tighten them. I own a 2010 Ford Crown Victoria P71. I had to remove several covers off around under the steering and below before I could even see up there. No video shows you how to do that. Also - I've been in there like a bee on honey- all in there- found the linkage- shifter- everything - I CANNOT find any t31 screws to tighten- there ARE none on here. Can someone please help. I have taken everything off so I can see the full shifter linkage - everything- no t31 screws- in fact everything is snug. This should not be that difficult- it's a Crown Vic. They're supposed to be easy to work on. I have been able to do several upgrades & repairs on this car quite easily but not for these 2 MIA t31 screws. Where in the world are they? It sounds funny but I could not find them. I can't tighten what I can't find.

Good one. I have that exact problem and will check. I have a feeling that loose shifter might be behind the parking pawl issue I am having. Truck rolling in P. Or maybe its not actually getting in P because of shifter?

I used the screws that came with the truck. Any type screw will work as long as they are the correct size. They can be purchased at almost any hardware store if you don’t have the originals. I would just call them screws or maybe bolts? Hope this helps, thanks for watching.
