While replacing the drive pedal is always an option, there are other ways to repair the common Kirby drive pedal issue. One is use a spring and another is Loctite.
Great video, thanks. Loctite makes a wicking thread locker, Loctite Green #290, which is meant for already assembled fasteners. This product works well, and would be ideal for this application because you would not need to disassemble the pedal.

You are the man! I’ve been trying to solve the clicking noise. Bought and replaced the cam unit which helped somewhat but I still had issues with it clicking. After watching your video, I was able to fix the issue and it was so simple. You really helped by a good presentation video. I’ve not seen another on KZitem that really explained this issue like this. I own a Kirby and also bought a used g 10 for our church which I maintain too. Now I know how to deal with this problem. Thanks so much!!!

Great Video, I almost was ready to throw my 90's G- five away after keeping it going for what seems like 20 or so years. I liked both of the fixes, and went with the super glue. I have used all of the Lock-Tite products and would have used one if I had it. I have been testing the limits of Super-glue for years and their are very few.. the addition of a little baking powder also improves the super glue. I hope this post finds you well, thank you for the great video.

My issue is what angle does the unit go onto the splines exactly and what position where the foot pedals at when you placed it on. my first attempt at this and speeding play up does not help the matter. Very helpful upto the point of actually fitting it onto the splines.

This is a design problem, not a manufacturing error. The units are built per design, but the design lacks an adequate retention mechanism and can fail in any unit. Kirby is being a jackass by not having fixed it in the replacement part, which would be easy.

Very nice video, I like the spring the best, I have not had good luck using super glue on metals In the past, I wish it the best of luck and hope it last but am a bit skeptical. I would say a epoxy or a Locktite mounting compound that’s designed to lock fitting metal parts. Also you do run the slight possibility of having the glue or epoxy not work at all if the splines have any play and constant movement is a factor it’s eventually going to break loose from the glue or epoxy in that situation. I would say the proper fix for this if even possible is going to be to drill the shaft out and install a small short roll pin in place but again don’t know if it’s possible. I’m working with this issue myself I’m going to try the spring and possibly try to drill and put a pin in.

@@VacLab great video! On my unit the whole lever/ spline assy. had come off. There is no mention of the correct spline-to-lever position. You can definitely have the spline misaligned and have to re-attach it. Once I super-glued it I couldn't get it back off, and I also over-drove the lever onto the spline-which causes the lever to be too tight. Fortunately I had another machine with a bad motor bearing- so I cannibalized that shifter.

I just happened to do this on my G5 after it had completely slipped off! The vacuum was working only with it engaged in drive, but then that stopped working too. I pulled it apart and found it slipped off the spline completely. I dont think its the foot pedal at fault because I put it back together with locate and it's still not working in drive. Is it likely the transmission has failed?
