My truck has stock size tires and 150K miles. But the steering on center has been sloppy. It had almost a 1/4 turn on center of slop. I added a steering box stabilizer, but it did not help. So this time I am replacing the track bar. See the before and after.
After I did this the steering is now tight and even on the freeway the steering is good as new. The problem with this particular failure is that when you apply a side force to the wheels with the steering box, the axle first moves to that side as the slop in the track bar is taken up, then it turns the wheels. This is the steering wheel slop I was dealing with.
