I own a 2017 Passat with the Neuspeed boost controller on it since well after break in. (20k). Car puts out right at 200hp. Gets 27-28 mpg on premium fuel. LiquiMoly 5w40 oil every 5k miles. I’m at 90k miles with no issues! It’s always been driven hard but never until oil temps are up and always gets time for the turbo to cool down. 90k miles with no issues so far!

There's that, and / or combined with cheap ass oil at 10k intervals or more. If you want to build up carbon with chunks big enough to catch the side of a valve, that'd be the way to do it jack.

I’m really sure it’s has oil consumption issue too. That’s a lot carbon/ oil deposit on the exhaust valves. If you have an oil consumption issue. Give BG dynamic engine a try before doing pistons/rings or engine replacement.

Some 1.8 and 2.0 burn tons of oil cause they came with too weak piston rings, dunno tho if this engine is one of those.

VCDS or OBDEleven for example. VCDS is more in depth and can do a lot of stuff (the genuine version). OBDEleven is more consumer oriented but can be convinced to do quite a bit, too.

Hey I have a b8 a4 2.0 tfsi. I’ve had this random misfire shortly after buying this car. I’ve replaced coils, coil connectors,plugs,pcv valve, both oxygen sensors,air oil separator,cam bridge,magnetic cam adjuster, spool valve/cam adjuster,timing chain and guides. Can’t seem to fix the misfire. Could the issue be that I need to reset the car with an Audi/VW vcd wire and laptop? I’m out of options because this is my only car I use to get to work. Please help

@@trentswag9324 Passat requires prem fuel? my MK7.5 GTI says 87 on the fuel door, though I have never used 87 I can't see how the Passat would "Require" prem fuel. You can still get top tier 87 octane. This most likely was the cause of cheap no name brand gas rather than octane related. Possible?

@@eppyz You're probably right, idk shit about the passat although I've heard anything German with a turbo takes premium; small cylinder turbos often run at higher compression and will detonate and knock on 87. At least that's what I read on the ole interwebs
@eppyz

Well used to be that way. Many turbo cars now a days don't require premium fuel. Honda Civic, CRV etc. the thing is though is Volkswagen does recommend top tier fuel. That is probably more important than the octane level.@@trentswag9324

I know next to zero about VW but I'm going to say it may be a direct injection engine?
@DarkRobin190
2 ай бұрын
direct injected engine things, not much you can do other than clean the carbon every 60-80k miles. I have a newer 2.0 tfsi and it actually has dual injection, ie port injection AND direct injection, the ecu switches between them but only really uses port injection at idle which washes off the valves, im at 100k miles now and 0 carbon on my valves. Unfortunately I think dual injection was only fitted to cars sold in Europe but ive heard of people retrofitting port injection to US cars

Get on the gas once in awhile. Don’t abuse it but get on the highway and open her up. My lady has this car and performs great. I do the oil changes every 5k and air filter every 2-3 months. I did the recommended fuel system and transmission service at 90K, will be doing it again in 20k more miles as the mileage will be doubled and when they did the fuel and transmission service, cars response came back as if it was new. If your a commuter, this helps a lot from keeping that carbon building up. Keep up on the basic maintenance and open up the throttle from time to time and the car will last.
@ZenzDeluxe
28 күн бұрын
Besides what was already mentioned, carbon build up is also reduced significantly by using quality fuels, oils and keeping the oil interval below 7k, preferably even below 5k.

@@mechtechau VW's are insanely expensive to maintain and repair, but you can mitigate it somewhat by instead of buying "genuine VW" parts, buying the same part form the same OEM manufacturer, without the branding. On a job like this it would shave off hundreds of dollars. The bulk of the high price on this particular job is clearly man hours though. Taking that engine out en tearing down to get into the timing section is a lot of work.

This doesn't happen on the European version of this engine because we have multi point injection in the European version and use 95 or 99 Ron fuel everywhere. You can't even buy the fuel you guys use in the states it's so bad.
@TassieLorenzo
22 күн бұрын
@@TheBaldMiddleAgedMetalHead Fair enough, but then why doesn't VW make an updated 2.5L I5 suitable for US fuel for North American models then? They already use the Aisin torque converter automatic instead of DSGs as it is better suited to US buyers, so why discontinue the strategy of using more old-school engines for the US too? Just update the I5 for newer emissions, perhaps?
