Thank you. Great break down and explanation. Just wish I saw this in the summer and not in the snowy winter. Things always break in the winter.

Yea for sure. Winter is when you find out the hubs don't work right. LOL

All the manual hubs I have had. Turn them each time you think of it. They will last, but run for months without using them. They stick. But still like manual hubs for sure. Or better let Manual with auto lockers also.

Thank you for the detailed video. Never would have thought about the nail trick. Will be trying this. Do you think adding a wedge, where the plastic clips that broke before separating could help prevent the plastic tabs breaking?

I appreciate your due diligence but I would never put those back in my truck. Upgrade to the warn, in the end of the day they are cheaper and they are reliable. Totally worth loosing auto lock.

If you spray some fluid film in between the handle and the outside edge between the plastic and the metal while the hubs are still on the truck and then turn it. That will loosen those up to where they're functional again. You don't have to work at it. Just spray it right on the surface it will find its way in and just turn it back and forth a few times. You might need a wrench or pliers the first time.

You mentioned having a 7.3 powerstroke. Same here 2002 dually... Do u have a video on the lock/Autolock hub? I keep getting conflicting opiniins and dont know where the truth rests. When I select the wheelhub dial to autolock......and dash selector knob in 2wd.. my front axles rotate while driving. 1 garage said that is the way its supposed to be..... the other garage says that is not normal.....🤯🤯🤯🤯.....any wisdom to offer......beyond frustrated

No video but the hub should not be locked in in 2wd when in auto. That's 100 % true. It should free wheel in 2wd.

@@TravelinTim does the phrase free wheeling mean that the knuckle/axle stays still/not rotate when the wheel is rotating?

Clicking noise while turning wheel while barely moving or sitting still. Think it's the hubs? Can't seem to come up with another explanation. Coming from the wheel area. Thanks for the vid.

So I have a 2015, I tried removing it exactly like you did but the clips did not hold on so the cap just came off and the bearing side is still stuck. Any idea on how to get it out?
@TravelinTim

@@vinnyz34 no. Sounds like something is broke. Might be time for new hubs

Have a question how do you get the splines out if the lock out comes out and the splines don't
@TravelinTim

Oh boy. Penetrating oil and get an O-ring pick. You can slide that down in there and grab that part and pull it out

My auto knob inside the cab isn’t working. Found out last week when I needed it. Had to jump out and manually turn hub. Is it most likely the vacuum seal on the hub that had failed (leaks) ?? If so, is new hubs the way to fix it?
@TravelinTim

Sometimes it's the vacuum or just a couple O-rings. I found that my hub is actually sticky and cleaning it fixed my problem

Does this work on 7.3 hubs too?
@TravelinTim

Yes but you can fully disassemble the 7.3 hubs and do a better cleaning job.
