I have long hair that tangles and matts, my best tip is to twist the sections you can separate so hair can't be pulled from the root. Start at the ends with a bristle brush to remove most of the knot, then use a regular brush keeping the hair sectioned, twisted and starting at the ends. Then I use a spray and cream leave in conditioner. Braid the sections until dry to help reduce frizz. Remove braids , hair is wavy and soft.

nice to watch but I actually stopped all those natural organic hair washes and treatments after almost 3 years. Like shown here, its extremely time consuming, expensive and often does not give better results than an actual hair mask or conditioner. My hair often ended up being more dry, changing its color because of herbs or powders and just because its natural and organic its not automatically save for you.I had many bad allergic reactions to such products. Dont want to sound negative and just sharing my experience. Her hair is naturally thick and nice and the products she uses work for her hair but made mine often worse. I now do pay more attention that a use a good shampoo with a good lower ph and do nourish my lengths with a conditionier or mask . Thats it. Works way better for me. Henna, herbs and natural masks can actually be really drying to the hair. I did not understand that for a long time

And we need to remember that what works for one person will not work exactly the same for the next. We all have different, unique skin and hair needs. If washing daily is needed, do it. If you can't wash more than once a week, don't.
@lisastandrew1693

I had exactly the same experience. Even having a lot of hair, if it's fine like mine, the heavier oils and the 'natural' powders wrecked havoc on my hair and scalp... even waiting several months to allow for the transition. I agree that what works for her does not work for everyone. Just remember that most of the people on YT demonstrating hair how-to, make money on the products you buy trying to get hair like they have.

True. It's good to use what's best for you. I like to use both conditioners and home made hair masks like honey+aloe vera+yoghurt (even ketchup or mayo!) Also, silicones are not as bad as people think - they should not be an ingredient in a shampoo but in a form of a serum, they are good to protect your ends. But as person above me said - everyone hairs are different and have different needs ❤️

I have long manageable hair. I always get stopped and asked questions about it. I'm like: "ummm.. it's just hair" lol. I don't Dye it and I use avalon organics shampoo and conditioner. An $8 shampoo. Literally, that's it and I brush it sometimes. Maybe a flat iron if I'm feeling some frizz come up. As you stated.. all of that extra stuff is time consuming and give the same or no results as just a simple shampoo.

Same, i have knee lenght fine straight hair and it’s already time consuming just washing it/doing basic care. (I love it tho, it’s my choice in the end). I tried these natural methods thinking it could only get better, but i just ended up spending even more time on it, nothing more. They did give me some good effects, but nothing more than regular hair masks. Sometimes no effect at all. Different hair has different needs… my hair honestly thrives on its own without adding these routines. Genetics play a huge role. Sarah has amazing hair but it’s 100% thanks to genetics.

Not sure if you might want to know but as an esthetician, one tip, the mask you used was a clay mask which is really great for drawing out oils and impurities and reducing the appearance of pores. Typically, a toner should be used following a mask to remove any trace of it without steaming the skin and softening the pores you just tightened up (Or removing any of the good stuff if you’re using a more hydrating cream mask)! Maybe try using a lavender toner, which should be super calming and also hydrating while making sure to remove any of the staining you’re concerned about. Follow up with a moisturizer and oil and you’ll be a skincare and haircare queen!

Tho I'd rather use an icecube as toner anytime, my own skin needs so much moisture, it's better to use a good cream, which I usually should keep cold to tighten my skin but not storing in the fridge as of now 😬 Milk is a great natural toner tbh, actual milk, even sour one. I suppose a drop of orange blossom for astringency could be good, I use the water to help clean my bright white bird, and calm her down .... Highly dilued. But it does get rid of the feces stains well, degreasing the feathers and removing old proteins from the stains, so it should be a great astringent on skin. However some people have less needs for products and I think it's important to respect. I'd rather mechanically exfoliate with a small metal disk with a grain on it, or a soft prickly dish cloth rather than use chemicals or a microbead, but I need a lot of exfoliating. Toning using cold objects, like an ice pack... Stimulating collagen with microstamping, dermarolling or massages, all with a good moisturizer. I managed to go thru my first puberty without a flaw , testosterone barely gave me a few unavoidable pimples, I did well, being in a healthcare field probably helped... I do enjoy a tiny drop of oestrogen cream around my nose occasionally to better the pores testosterone gave me; cis men do it, I don't see why I wouldn't 😅 But yeah I'd rather suggest ice at this point if at all useful
@emmacarroll3665
Жыл бұрын
@@LobotomizedTeddyBear to each their own but just so you know milk is actually an exfoliant because of the acidity levels. While creams will add moisture, that doesn't replace the work of the toner which is mostly to remove leftover product. Lavender toners don't have to be store bought and can be created at home
@_s.4

That’s interesting to know.. Does that mean a toner should be used to remove any sort of mask from the face instead of water? Please explain. I have visible pores on my nose and inner cheeks plus texture. Clay masks do help but I use water to remove it, never a toner.

As someone else with long hair, I can attest that adding "long" layers (mine are in the last 6-8 inches of my hair) makes a WORLD of difference when it comes to mats and tangles. When my hair is all the same length, or even close to it, it consistently knots itself. The layers prevent nearly all of this from happening, and I only brush my hair once before showering twice a week.
@jazzhart1327

Yea I found the same thing the layers helps cut back of knotting and matting a huge amount and a hair bonnet helps if your hair goes fluffy the day after a wash n treatment it smooths it right down just wear over night

Why is this? Is it cuz the hairs not as close together? Genuinely curious
@spartan117sj

@@Plushiecandie Yes. I'm sure it varies for others, but 99.9% of my tangles/knots happen at my ends where different curl clumps intertwine with each other. Or where knots "tighten" as I brush them down/out. Less hair at the ends = fewer opportunities for knots.

Hey, love. Been watching you for years. You converted me to Calia and for that I'm continually grateful. Getting the particularly close look at your hair this video gives, it appears we actually have very similar hair. Mine is knee length, thick as hell, mostly straight with some slight wave, healthy though dry, and tangles by looking at it, and I wonder if I might share with you something that works for me. Give Shea Nut Oil aka Shea Olein a try (it's not the same as shea butter). I use the NOW brand, but there are others, though the cloudier the color the better. It's unlike any other oil in several ways but particularly in feel and absorption. Drench your hair profusely and braid it. Leave it in over night at the least or for a day or two if you're feeling lazy or want to enjoy the insanely perfect shiny braid. Wash it out thoroughly, but only once, and condition normally. Don't shampoo twice even though you'll feel tempted to, it will be fine when it dries. And do this before every shampoo sesh if possible. Despite the brush we choose or how much we use it, at our hair length the scalp oils simply do not reach our ends anymore, no matter how hard we might try to distribute them. I realized this later than I should have, but Shea Nut Oil has been a godsend, and I've tried truly any other oil I could ever get my hands on. When you use it you'll feel what I mean. Brushing your hair wet (so carefully) and letting it dry as straight as possible also makes a bigger difference when dry than many realize. Hope this helps a little.

Thank you for sharing your tips on using Shea Nut oil. I was wondering do you apply the oil to your scalp as well or just the lengths of the hair? Hi Sarah, you mention that you wash your hair every 4 to 7 days. Wondering if you have any tips on refreshing during that time? I cannot get past day 4 because even though my hair still looks nice and starts to fall beautifully due to the oils, it starts to take on a musty smell. Obviously I can wash it at that point but wondering if there's a way, aside from dry shampoo, to refresh without washing so I can go longer between washes? Or does the scalp just have a limit?
@whiteflame8249
9 ай бұрын
Give it time. Your hair actually gets used to not being washed so often. When I was “training” my hair, I used dry shampoo to get me through the week but you can also use rosemary and ginger water which strengthens hair but dries out the oil. Personally I think natural oils are good for the hair. Another thing you can use is a natural boar bristle brush which actually helps move your oils from your scalp to your ends. The bonus of natural hair oils is that your hair will always look shiny! Anyway, remember that it takes time for your hair to get used to not being washed so often. I also think rotating your shampoos is a good idea. If your hair gets greasy quickly, your shampoo and conditioner might be a bit heavy for your hair type.

It works super well! I'm still in the process of finding good products (and this is why I will be saying goodbye to Aroma Zone) but these products look very efficient!

One way of de-matting long hair without breaking hair is using serum on the matted patch. Then just comb your hair. Works each time 😊

Shake the can of coconut milk well before opening. The fat solidifies and separates from the liquid making it look curdled. Tip from a Thai restaurant chef.

My hair is getting long. It’s like almost to the bottom of my back. I want to be able to have it Dutch braided but have the braids fall below my boobs. Right now they sit like just at the nip lmao But I want to be able to do so much with my hair when it’s so long😇 I love my hair and I always take care of it. I want to start my oil treatment again. That really helped my hair grow. But sadly, I have only one day off and I work two full time jobs lol so it’s hard to find time to do anything big like sleep with an oil mask in. I could do it the night before my day off. I wash my hair once a week or go longer depending on how bad it is. But it usually never gets super bad. No one can tell I haven’t washed it lol
