I recently purchased a copy of Deep Purple's Burn LP that was bowl shaped. When I went to play side 2 none of the outer edge of the record was making contact with the platter. This resulted in side 2 having little to no bass on playback. Here's what I did to correct it. Without actually turning on my ultrasonic cleaner I allowed the record to spin in the heated (40 degrees C) water for about 5 minutes. I then quickly wiped off the excess water with a clean cotton towel and then placed the record between 2 sheets of 1/4" thick glass. I let it set for a while and when I placed it on my turntable it was perfectly flat again. The bass also returned upon playback.

My slightly warped David Sylvian lp was fixed using a hairdryer and a heavy stack of anything. Just distribute the heat, do not keep the dryer in one position, heat it lightly and put the weight on it, on a perfectly flat surface. Best to place the complete lp on the flat surface, not just the warped bit. It could warp the other part of the record! Another option is to let a good quality record store use their vinyl flattener and do it for you. For around 5 bucks it is not worth the hassle of doing it yourself.

Try this. Put the record between 2 sheets of glass, and leave it in a sunny window. Depending on how sunny it is where you live, it may get warm enough in an afternoon or may take a few days. The glass will keep it flat as it softens, without crushing the grooves...Slow and steady!

Have you ever tried putting the record between to pieces of smooth glass, and then either leave then outside in the sun for a bit, or use a heat gun on the glass for a few seconds ?

Hey Kyle, I've been watching you uploads for a while now and find them really interesting. I like your laid back way. On the flattening of records, find the warped area and warm it with a hair dryer. Hold in the warped area and waft it in the air. It will cool down quickly. Should take the warp out. I have tried it and it seems to be ok. Cheers Dave in the UK ( not far from you..... LOL ).

Good luck mate. If you use the hair dryer you can alternate the heat and it won't melt. Years ago people used to make ash trays out of records by bending them like the one you did with the iron... LOL. Last week I heard a brilliant recording of COMFORTABLY NUMB by Pink Floyd, the song was sung by David Bowie. I will have to track it down. Cheers Dave.
