I just performed this procedure on our 2014 Jeep Patriot. I left the CD ribbon plug alone and just moved the CD aside. I used a hair dryer on the hottest setting while holding the black square down. I alternated the heat on then moved away-on move away several times without keeping constant heat on the part. The radio is working now. Thanks for your detailed video on the repair!

That's why my Jeep Patriot radio is only working when the car is parked in the summer hot sun all day... Car Dealer says it has to be changed for a new radio... $400 + 15% taxes (Canadian) + their time. 😢 And it takes 2 weeks for the dealer to receive the radio.

Just wanted to say "Thank you". I did not have the specialized device that you recommended. I improvised - I used a hair dryer set on hot and a wooden spoon to push on the chip. It worked great. Mine is a 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT. I then got inspired and decide to "modernize" the van a little.' I bought a blue tooth receiver (like < $3 on ebay) that plugs into the AUX input and now I can play audio from my phone onto the radio. I also put a dashcam recorder (over the mirror) and a backup camera (all under $50). It all worked well. Thank you, again.

Not sure, but I had that problem with my '99 Grand AM one morning. It was weird - the volume went up when I tried to turn it down and it went up when I tried to turn it up. After a few tries it was so loud I had to turn the radio off! I got it working by leaving the radio off and turning the volume knob up and down a bunch of times. Must have had some dirt in the control.

I've had my Jeep for 4 years. I have never picked up many radio stations, most days I picked up one station. And then I started having issues with it going in and out I followed this video step by step and my radio works better than it did when I first got it now thank you

Holy shit its actually working now after a year of it being broken! Youre a savior. Didnt have a solder heat gun so i used a paint stripping heat gun with a diy tinfoil cone on the end. Thanks bro!

Thank you sooo much for posting this. The radio in my Jeep Patriot hasn’t worked in 2 years! Today I finally went to the shop to try to get it fixed. They told me it would be cheaper if I get a new radio instead of repairing old equipment, so i was thinking a new radio my cost me $250 mix. They said the new radio and installation Is $1150 😩 i said no thanks!

I know this is an old video, but, I drive a 2015 Jeep Patriot, and the head unit was causing a horrible popping sound through the speakers. I was looking for a video to explain this issue and I found this one. Your step by step instructions are absolutely amazing. I spent most of my time trying to remove the black plate from the unit, but once that finally came off, I was able to use my heat gun (on low 500+ degrees) and shot the chip for about 5 seconds, as to not melt anything around it. I replaced all the screws and plate re mounted my head unit back in place , and low and behold it works. Thank you my fellow Patriot driver! Saved me about $400 having to replace my stereo. Unfortunately it has other issues I can't fix, but hey if I need local radio I can hook my phone to the AUX jack and play it that way

@@yaboycai9578 You have no idea! Super embarrassing when you have window down trying to play music and it skips and pops every 5 seconds. I have owned a Dodge truck that had the same stereo and it busted the day I made my final payment. Apparently this is a well known issue with this Chrysler radio.

Awesome! This did the trick with our 2011 Jeep Wrangler radio. I used some extra solder in the upper left hand corner of the chip that looked a little dry, then used a small RadioShack butane torch all around to reflow the solder. Appreciate you taking the time to make this video.

Praise the Lord! Thank you so much! Another's comment recommended a mini torch/solder/hot air and that worked for me. I was about to order a new touch screen radio, but I really just wanted to keep my stock radio. Thanks again! At least 2 years without a radio, and several months of using a Bluetooth speaker because the whole radio began cutting out like it was shorting out.
