Rizal Park, City of Manila
June 12, 2024
As the nation celebrates 126 years of Independence and Nationhood, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led the flag raising and wreath-laying ceremony at the Rizal Park Monument in the City of Manila.
The First Family was also in attendance to raise the Philippine Flag, with First Lady Louise Araneta Marcos and Presidential sons, Ilocos Norte 1st District Representative Ferdinand Alexander 'Sandro' Marcos III and William Vincent Marcos.
Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner Jr. and National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) Chairperson Lisa Nakpil also joined the President in offering a wreath at the monument of the country’s national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal. In a short video message, both officials encouraged every Filipino to unite and work together towards protecting and defending the country's freedom.
The event was among the key components of the country's yearly commemoration of Independence Day, with simultaneous flag raising and wreath-laying ceremonies also held in different areas, namely the Dambanang Emilio Aguinaldo in Cavite; Barasoain Church Historical Landmark in Malolos City, Bulacan; Pinaglabanan Memorial Shrine in San Juan City; Mausoleo delos Veteranos dela Revolucion in Manila North Cemetery; Andres Bonifacio National Monument in Caloocan City; and Museo ng Kasaysayang Panlipunan ng Pilipinas in Angeles City, Pampanga.
Bearing the theme, ‘Kalayaan. Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan.’, this year’s event embraces the new Bagong Pilipinas tradition of commemorating Philippine Independence. Various fun activities and entertaining events are being held at the Quirino Grandstand that celebrate the Filipino heritage and patriotism.
