I am going to say this to all those that do not know the purpose of this site. This site is for officials learning rules. No one said that this was a high school game. It is clearly the Big East Tournament. But a Flagrant 1 Foul is the same as an Intentional Foul in the high school game. This is not a fanboy site, this is for officials to learn rules and interpretations as it relates to the game of basketball. This is kind of the purpose of the site (if you read the purpose of this site instead of just watching one video).

Your title is written correctly and conveys the meaning you intended. I teach and see this happen all the time. People, instead of actually reading what is written make an assumption and then get frustrated when what they get is not what they thought it was supposed to be. They refuse to acknowledge that they screwed up since they are perfect and never make a mistake so obviously the mistake was yours. Keep up the great work. I love your videos and learn a lot about the game from your posts. Thank you!

Then offsetting direct technicals to both head coaches for jawing. Resume with the FF1 shots to the fouled player (which they did) and throw in to offended team at the POI nearest the spot of the foul. (All done correctly)

If you go a Flagrant on the original foul on the St. John's player, it is definitely a Flagrant 1 because it was unnecessary but not necessarily excessive. T on 24 of Georgetown for one shove, didn't get a clear look, but you could call a second T on Georgetown 42 for another. T and immediate toss for both coaches for almost starting a major altercation. After all the FT's, check alternate possession because both teams got T's.

So here's what I got, I've got a personal foul in the St. John's player, he wasn't excessive or malicious, and I don't think it warranted a flagrant foul. After the play, and in the dead ball situation, I have fighting fouls on 24th from Georgetown and 42 from Georgetown, and they're both gone. Gone. I have double technicals on both coaches, and they're both gone. I think that about covers it.

It is a flagrant 1 foul because the defender makes no play on the ball. It is not about the violence of the foul, but the actions that lead to the foul. So that part cannot be ignored. @@OfficiatingBornVideos I think he meant the intentional (HS rules) foul wasn't anything for GT to get upset about. And it wasn't. What they called in that case was correct. This is one reason why I quit calling HS ball. No way to properly sort all that out without replay and it was beginning to happen more and more. Coaches coming on to the court, ostensibly to get their players, then talking to opposing players or to us. By the time we got everything sorted out, we sometimes couldn't remember what number we had the initial foul on or who did what after that. It was then I realized that was likely the idea. This was not an NBA game, this was a college game with non-professional players. How Kurt Rambis was fouled back in the day would be an easy ejection at all other levels now. Flagrant Fouls are not about the severity of the contact, but the kind of contact. You must play the ball or not just grab someone when you are behind them with no attempt to make a basketball play. This is why this kind of foul was called and probably for the reaction. The player clearly did that on purpose and tried to be coy by putting his arms up.

Why does the title say HS?
@OfficiatingBornVideos
4 жыл бұрын
Because this is an officiating rules site, where rules from different levels are discussed. The rules for high school and college have different terminology and application for this situation. So if you are not aware, this would be called an "Intentional Foul" at the high school level. At the college level, this would be called a "Flagrant Foul" (1 or 2). Much of the audience that would view this are not NCAA officials and they would only understand or apply the high school rules. So because it is harder to find adequate high school videos (especially when this was posted), that show extensive situations like these. Now if you had read the pinned comment or the description of the page, this would be much clearer to you and others. Clearly, many people attend this page that understands this fact and knows what this site is about. I am going to suspect you are not an official so this might have been a little lost on you. This was not posted for fan purposes or to highlight a fight. This is for officials so they understand how to apply the rules at the levels they work games. Thank you for your support of the page. ;)

If you actually read the pinned comment or understood the purpose of the site that answers would be clear. This is a rules site. Most officials that would view this site are officials that never work a college game in their life. High School or National Federation Rules apply to them. The video is to show a situation and apply those rules. Again all clear if you actually read the purpose of the site.

@Roady: I answered the question. If you do not know the purpose of this website, that is not my issue at this point. Many people addressed that because they know the purpose and pointed it out to other comments. You can go elsewhere. I am not retitling this. Not at all. It is mostly fanboys that have an issue with this. Officials that know rules know what is being discussed. Not my fault people do not read the comments about this site or the other videos that are named nearly identically.

Maybe the people that did not read the site's purpose? Never said it was a high school game. But the game of basketball has some similar rules in some areas and different rules in other areas.
