This channel is amazing. As a former resident of both Wabush and Labrador city, I really love that you tend to focus on the history of smaller Canadian towns that the majority of people overlook. Keep it up and I can’t wait for episodes 2 and 3!

The stylized L on Laval’s flag was the logo of the Laval Voisins hockey team. The Voisins played in the 1970’s and 1980’s, and the legendary Mario Lemieux played for them

3:23 I think it is plausible that the white cross on blue background is related to the one on the former french naval ensign, where flags like Québec's and former Martinique's are derived from (both of which even share the same pattern with a charge repeated on all four quarters). It would thus certainly be a Saint Michel's cross, a symbol originally used by the french as an "antagonist" to the english red on white Saint Georges' cross during the Hundred Years' War, and the blue color would then rather stand for the french kingdom (or Virgin Mary according to some).

I wonder if the Commonwealth nations follow the rules of British heraldry. Such rules, when properly used, lead to good designs in both arms and flags.
@AJMSTUDIOSvideo
Жыл бұрын
Yes and no. Towns and cities of course can do whatever they want on a flag, but for Canada especially, if they was a heraldic symbol officially, they need to apply through the Canadian Heraldic Authority, who appears a lot in this video series. The standards the CHA follows are based on English heraldic symbolism, but they do things their own way as well.
